The North American Copper in Architecture (NACA) Awards recognizes and promotes North American building projects for their outstanding use of architectural copper and copper alloys. Final round! We're so close. We're really proud of this partnership together with eQ Homes, and West of Main, for the work completed on "The Alder at Clarence Crossing". This project has officially made it to the final round of the People's Choice for the 2020 Greater Ottawa Home Builders' Association's Annual Housing Design Awards. The Alder is part of eQ Home's low-rise condo series, where every unit is a corner unit in buildings that are three storeys. Aimed at downsizers..., this unit was designed with a retired homeowner in mind and styled by West of Main in a mid-century and nature-inspired style with a contemporary feel. Another construction milestone for The Grove Nursing Home Redevelopment in Arnprior. Couple weeks back, Hobin Architecture's Reinhard Vogel, Project Director, toured the site of The Grove with Darrel O’Shaughnessy from the Men’s Shed. Excited to see Warlyn Construction's ground breaking this week for the new affordable housing project for Christ Church Bells Corners. #WorldCarFreeDay, celebrated each year on September 22nd, encourages motorists to give up their cars for one day in an effort to help reduce pollution and traffic congestion. If you know #TeamHobin well, this will not be a surprise to you but cycling, running, walking (and well, pretty much anything active and outdoors) has been a huge part of our office culture and many of these hobbies have continued to tie us together as a group for many years. Ravenhill Common is a 19-unit residential infill project on the site of Westboro United Church, built in 1913. While not identified for heritage value, the main church building was seen as an asset to the development, and its preservation was essential to maintaining a community connection. The redevelopment included an extensive renovation of the church to accommodate what is now known as Festival House, the headquarters of RBC Royal Bank Bluesfest, a small performance spa...ce and the Bluesfest School of Music & Art. Views for days. This home addition on Soper Place in Rockcliffe Park, replaced the original 2-car garage and pool house with a spa, guest house and 4-car garage, accompanied by a new landscaped terrace with pool, hot tub and outdoor dining area. The former covered walkway that connected the main house to the poolhouse was also replaced with a fully enclosed and conditioned glass link that provides year-round access between the two buildings. Last week the official groundbreaking ceremony took place for 36 Robinson Avenue in Ottawa's Sandy Hill neighbourhood. We received so much interest on The Rock Cottage, lakeside summer home on the Rideau Lakes, that we wanted to share a few more of our favourite shots. This project is as much an indoor experience as an outdoor one, and continuity between inside and out is a recurring theme. While stone piers and chimneys anchor the cottage to the ground and create a rhythm in the facades, the contrasting horizontal planes o...f glass and beams seem to allow the roof to float above. This perceived lightness contributes to the airy feeling of the cottage whose long linear wings might otherwise appear heavy. Is anyone heading to the cottage this weekend? Wouldn't you love for THIS to be your summer home? The Rock Cottage sits atop a rocky lakeside cleft in the eastern Ontario township of #RideauLakes. The concept of a grouping of cabins became a guiding principal for the design of the cottage. The use of natural materials was a response to a desire to make the cottage feel like it was an extension of the surrounding natural elements while keeping true to the essence of pl...ace. It's a hot summer in the city! Have any of you kayakers and canoers been out exploring Ottawa's waterways yet? If so, this building may be familiar to you. The Ottawa Pumphouse Pavilion (home to the Ottawa River Runners) offers 3,000 sq. ft. of shelter and storage space, integrated within the landscape.... The location of the pavilion was carefully studied and ultimately minimizes the impact on the natural environment while maximizing views and vistas from both the new building and surrounding areas. The building and landscape are fused together to insert an iconic form that will represent the ORR organization for years to come into the existing setting. #HobinArchitecture #OttawaArchitecture

It's officially summer, and as more people continue to work from home we wanted to highlight a few of our favourite #HobinHomes (or should we say #HobinCottages) for some architectural inspiration. It's more important than ever to love the space you're in. This design, The Rockport Cottage overlooks the St. Lawrence River near Rockport, Ontario. A desire to make the cottage feel like an extension of the surrounding natural elements while keeping true to the essence of place prompted the use of a natural material palette of stone, wood, metal and glass.
