The Wellness Post 11.05.2021

After a long and unpredictable winter, The Wellness Post is open and restocking for Spring and Summer, like we do every April. On May 10th we will be celebrating our SEVENTH anniversary here! The challenges of the last 13 months have been exceptional, but I believe in our community and our local small businesses. Some have struggled more than others, but what I’ve noticed is that Norfolk hasn’t become complacent and that’s what makes it easy to keep faith, as a local busine...ss owner. So. Despite last night’s announcement that the children are to stay home (again), and that we are to observe lockdown restrictions for another four weeks, we are here and getting ready for a positive recoup on the horizon. Just be advised that a homeschooled child or two may be here as well, with all the volume that spring always induces in people under 14. Thank you Spring ‘21 Hours: Tuesday to Saturday ~ 11-4

What's wrong is always available. So is what's right. If you ask someone what’s bothering them or what’s wrong, you’ll get just that, more of the problem. If yo...u ask, What do you want? or How do you want to shift things? you’ve redirected the focus from the problem to the solution. In any situation no matter how dismal there’s a desirable outcome to be achieved. Ideally, a win-win. Your goal as a leader should be to interrupt the pattern of the problem, to pivot, and change the direction of your attention TOWARD THE SOLUTION and AWAY FROM THE PROBLEM. You’ll solve problems by staying flexible enough to change, to adapt, to experiment, be playful, and to try something new. The more flexible you are, the more options you create, the more doors open to you, and the more solutions you will create.

K so ‘member how we all fell in love with #goldenmilk and #goldenmilklattes ... and #turmericlatte and #turmericeverything ? I’m sharing this #goldenporridgebowl recipe because I just fell in love with something new from the turmeric world, and I’ve tried lots and lots. It’s soo easy and it’s #soogood. 2-3tbsp each of all the dry ingredients (more if you’re hungrier): -goji berries -skinny B ... -probiotic golden turmeric sorghum cereal Plus 1/2c whatever milk you like. ( I use hemp or coconut bc I think they’re creamier than almond or oat or cashew) Heat until JUST hot. Don’t COOK it. You’ll lose a lot of the good stuff. Happy Golden Winter 2021! ~hc #thewellnesspost21 See more

Hi We need your help At Healthy Holistic Living, we strive to provide you with the most accurate science-based health-related content available, it’s our miss...ion. And unfortunately, Facebook is trying to stop us. The most recent correspondence from Facebook suggests they may remove our community page. The page I built from scratch one member at a time. Over the last year, Facebook has been strategically blocking our content. To remain viable, we moved away from breaking health content on Facebook and moved slightly to feel-good content to see if that would help but to no avail. At this point, the hard truth is we are being censored. And it’s not just us. It seems to be across the board and hyper-focused on alternative health content. Both Google and Facebook have been adjusting their algorithms to limit our exposure to your feeds and search results. And now Congress is involved. The issue is that some sites are turning fake news in both the alternative health niche and political niche and it has become a powerful force. Some are suggesting so much so that our public health is at risk. While I understand the thinking the result is total censorship. One group deciding what is truth and that is scary. So here is our ask Ask your friends and family to sign up for our email list Join our alternative platforms. Even though most are censored at least we may still have a chance of reaching you

I’m excited to introduce this beautiful pottery in time for the #holidayseason ... Ankie Lamers Pottery is #local and we’re the sole location to house it. She has kept it very reasonably priced, which I know is especially important to all of us this year. Come see! #thewellnesspost #shoplocal

‘TIS THE SEASON FOR ASTRAGALUS... This seasonal shift is perhaps the most important and impactful of the entire year. We instinctively crave more carbohydrate, due to less light and colder temperatures. If we’re not careful, this translates to (feels like/registers as) excess sugar consumption in our blood, and our immune systems take a dive. ... Couple that with the increased indoor time, and less fresh, local produce, and we need some immune boosting daily habits to keep from getting sick. Every autumn I speak about fermented foods and their importance - for the same reason. Your digestive system is where it ALL starts. I call it the ‘potbelly stove’ in the centre of our bodies that we have to keep stoked all winter to stay well. Probiotic (fermented) foods, and ADAPTOGENIC super foods like Astragalus, Maca, and Ginseng, (there are too many to list here) sprinkled daily with Vitamin C powerhouses like Goji and Camu, should be the cornerstones of your Autumn transition eating plan. Be really really good to you, always, but especially this year. ~hc

STOP what you’re doing and get to Pop Up Norfolk! They’ve just opened the doors and I am blown away at how well done this new gem is. It’s set up just in time f...or you to make a solid effort to shop locally this holiday season AND support local crafters and artisans who wouldn’t normally have an opportunity to have a brick and mortar store front. Supporting local has never been easier and more on trend. HAPPY FRIDAY! Scroll through to see some of my favourites! See more

As the weather changes, I’m getting calls and inquiries about the free coat exchange and donations this year. We will be taking donations of children’s coats and winter apparel as usual, and I will take them to West Lynn and Elgin Ave myself. The free coat exchange will begin just after Halloween and continue until Spring. So bring us what warm and cozy things you’ve got to donate (laundered and bagged if possible) and I will make sure they get to where they’re needed most.

Historically, this is the time of year that we hold a workshop about the importance of Fermented Foods, with some instruction on how to make them. The adjustment to the cold and damp of Autumn requires a lot of our immune systems, and especially this year. Probiotic foods (Fermented, enzymatic, etc.) provide a kick start to that function. Kombucha, kimchi, and sauerkraut, are just a few of our faves in here. Shown here: Karthein’s Carrot & Ginger ‘kraut $7.99
