What is peri-implant disease? You lost a tooth and got an implant, now what? This artificial tooth will not decay, which means no more cavities! However, regular oral maintenance is still required to maintain healthy gums, especially around the implant site. The gums can harbour bacteria and can get inflamed and infected. Resulting in peri-implant disease. There are two categories: peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. Peri-implant mucositis there is no bone loss and... gum inflammation is found around the soft tissues of the dental implant. If caught at an early stage, it is reversible. Peri-implantitis gum inflammation is found around the soft tissue and there is deterioration in supporting bone. This condition will require surgical treatment. Look for red/tender gums around the implant and bleeding when brushing as it can indicate peri-implant disease. Remember to brush and floss daily! #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #toronto #ontario #bruxism
