This contest is open to anyone in Hay River, Enterprise, and Katlodeeche First Nation. Prizes will be awarded to submissions across 5 different age categories: - 5 - 10 years old - 11-15 years old - 16-19 years old - 20-59 years old... - 60+ years old There will also be a participation prize for each entry. November is Family Violence Prevention Month in the NWT. Family violence is a serious public health issue in the NWT and across Canada. Family Violence Prevention Month is focused on promoting a change in attitudes and behaviours as we strive to address, reduce, and ultimately, bring an end to family violence. Four shelters across the NWT, including the Family Support Centre, have received extra funds from the government to help with keep women and children safe during the pandemic. "The COVID19 pandemic has created unprecedented challenges for survivors of sexual and domestic violence and the organizations that serve them," said a statement from NWT MP Michael McLeod."That is why our government acted to support women and children fleeing gender-based violence, including front-line organizations here in the North."
The Dope Experience is hosting a FREE 5-day boot camp in Hay River! Youth between 13 and 18 are invited to join us for a week of film and video production, discussions about mental health and substance use, and exploring their own unique community.
