Humble Hounds 18.11.2020

Here is a clip from a couple weeks ago when our Lead Trainer Yanna was working with our HHCSDiT Xena! We have Xena practicing a nice offleash walk and basic obedience around loud and scary distractions in @spirithalloween to boost the confidence and reliability of Xena’s commands in loud or distracting situations. Mia no more! This beautiful girl’s new name is now Cana! After speaking with her family we agreed that it was in the best interest of them and then dog, and furthering her training. We introduced her new name at home and then took her out to petsmart to add more distractions, but to also work on her leash manners, obedience and her manners when meeting strangers. In the last video you’ll see Cana performing the commands my mother asks of her, what a great girl! Why did we c...hange her name? She would never respond to Mia, unless you used a harsh tone or called her 10+ times, and that’s no good. Over-calling a dog’s name is a common mistake that many pet owners make though. People tend to use their dog’s name as a way to get their attention whether it’s positive or negative, but when you do that it starts to create this bond with the name that makes the dog not want to listen, and calling the name more and more just makes it worse, meaning the dog is responding to their name even less.
