You know that saying necessity is the mother of invention? I am roughly 3/5 through a month-long, all day catering gig at the NDP headquarters, and I couldn’t be happier for the work but it is definitely a hustle. Some meal services are very rushed, others are more paced out as these folks are working hard, and often tied up on calls or rushing around pounding the pavement. It’s during those time when I have a moment to sit, and this has become my system. I’ve positioned my... chair so that I can see the reflection of my service door (I’m intentionally secluded from the rest of the building, and was brought in to feed everyone whilst minimizing their contact to dozens of restaurants/delivery drivers each day, so we can all stay safe) bouncing off of the hand sink and then off of the glass front of this oven so I can tell if/when someone has shown up for food. It’s incredibly helpful, and makes me feel clever. I hope y’all are doing well. I sure do miss you. See more

Lots of big emotions this month. I’m currently working a 14 hour a day, 30 day catering gig (which I couldn’t be more grateful for), at the same time that I am navigating the closure of HG and moving out of the home that I have lived in beside the diner for the past 4 years. Lots on my plate, both emotionally and physically. Over the years I have handed over the keys to the diner to friends/filmmakers/bands/strangers who wanted engagement or wedding photos/models/etc, so that they could shoot/film in the space that my pops and I created. Today Douglas Stroud brought me a print from the self portrait series he shot there for his BFA project, and it’s making me well up pretty hard. Thank y’all so much for appreciating what we created.
