Recently at a virtual Baby Time we discussed Self-regulation and how we learn to regulate our emotions. We asked the question, Growing up, who understood or soothed your big emotions the most? This quote from Circle of Security Parenting shows the importance of having your emotions, especially the big ones, validated. It’s easy to recall those who comforted us by validating our feelings, by remaining calm, sitting with us and listening. Every time you soothe your upset chi...ld this tells them that you are available and can help them through those big emotions. You are CO-REGULATING their big emotions, so they may learn to self-regulate. What do you do to help your child when they are feeling BIG emotions? Interested in the Circle of Security Parenting Program? Watch for information coming soon. Visit www.circleofsecurityinternational.com for more information about this program. See more

So many activities to do with pumpkins! These are activities that we would have been enjoying with you at an in person program. Pumpkin pounding with golf tees and a child’s hammer, children will have hours of fun pounding the pegs into the pumpkin. Make a face on your pumpkin with Mr. Potato Head pieces and straws. Poke a hole in the pumpkin with a screw driver and your child can create over and over again. Another favourite is painting a pumpkin. We would love to see your silly pumpkin! Please share a picture below.

Fall TRADITIONS. Do you and your family have any fall traditions? Is there something you remember doing from your own childhood that you enjoyed each Fall? Traditions can create positive memories as a family and connect generations. Megan shares a favourite Fall tradition:... "When I was younger, I enjoyed the times I was able to help my Grandma make homemade applesauce in the Fall. A day of making applesauce was never complete until we baked a batch of her famous "Scones" (raisin tea biscuits). My Grandma passed away several years ago, and I received her handwritten 'scones' recipe along with the 'scone cutter'. Every Fall, I look forward to continuing this tradition and it always brings up special memories of days in my Grandma's kitchen. I spent last night making applesauce and scones, next I'm looking forward to using some of the applesauce for baking." Here is one of my favourite recipes. If you've attended a "Cooking with Kids" program in the past, you've maybe tried these "Applesauce Muffins." This is a great recipe to try with children who enjoy being involved in the kitchen. We'd love to hear traditions you remember from your childhood, or newer ones that you look forward to each Fall with your own family or friends!

In a mason jar (or large cylinder type jar) place different types of spoons, with the 'stem end' sticking out of the jar. Types of spoons: plastic, large ladle (plastic or rubber), big and small metal spoons & wooden spoon. On the end of each spoon - put a dab of butter or margarine. On the butter - stick a skittle or smartie.... Next, pour boiling hot water CAREFULLY into the jar.. Which spoon will lose its candy first? The metal ones transfer the heat (Good Conductors) from the water, up the stem of the spoon - therefore causing the butter to melt and the candy to fall. Let us know if you try it out!
