The HWCDSB is a proud supporter of #BellLetsTalk, a national awareness campaign dedicated to the promotion and support of mental health across Canada. As a Catholic school community and in support of the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board Mental Health and Addictions Strategy, we continue to remain committed to fostering safe and inclusive learning environments, which includes addressing mental health. Bell Let’s Talk Day is a time to acknowledge that many stu...dents are struggling with challenging emotions in response to the realities of the pandemic associated public health restrictions and other events and impacts. It also provides another opportunity for our youth to hear messages that validate their varied and unique experiences and to be shown caring support. This year's theme is "Taking Care of Yourself and Others." Our Child and Youth Workers share some of their favourite self-care tips in this video they created.

Happy New Year! May the new year shine bright with hope and goodness.
When COVID-19 restrictions halted organized sports across the province, it didn’t stop one family from thinking outside the box or rink to keep active. Fueled by a passion for hockey and can-do attitude, father and son duo, Rich and John Vrataric, created close to 40 physical literacy training videos for the Huskies Hockey Association in Hamilton. While originally intended for hockey teammates, the family invites anyone to try these workouts - free of charge.

The HWCDSB has launched a new parent website. With the expansion of 'Virtual Learning' this year, the new parent site contains explanations of how virtual learning works in both elementary and secondary as well as a new "Tech Help" area for accessing these systems. Parents can also find tips on supporting virtual learning at home and a video series on different technologies. Click the link to learn more.
The HWCDSB is committed to ensuring that Catholic schools are places of hope, places where diversity of human kind is to be celebrated and places where racism of any kind is not tolerated. We are committed to listening and learning from those who have and continue to experience racism. To that end, we are seeking Black, Indigenous and racialized parents and guardians to serve on the Board’s Anti-Racism Education Committee. The committee was recently formed to advise the HW...CDSB on strategies to promote and strengthen anti-racism education to ensure an understanding of the needs of black, Indigenous and racialized students within our schools. We are looking for parents/guardians of students currently enrolled in schools of the HWCDSB: who are from the Black, Indigenous, racialized community; who can develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships; who are open to supporting the HWCDSB in working towards anti-racism initiatives. Click link to learn how to apply.
A silent demonstration from students at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School was held in solidarity with those in the Hamilton community who don’t have a voice. To participate, students pledged a minimum of $20 to not speak, text or email for 18.5 hours. In total, $6,025 was raised, which benefited the De Mazenod Door Outreach Program at St. Patrick Church.

On November 11, we remember. We remember, in a special way and with special affection and gratitude, those gallant heroes who gave their lives so that our world might be free. Remembrance Day is an occasion to remember not only Flanders Fields but all the battlefields of history, with all their dead. It is a time to honour their memory, to hold them in our hearts, to keep them in our prayers. ... It is a time to listen to the call to reconciliation and peace: peace with our God, peace with our fellow human beings, peace with the earth, peace with our own selves. Because that is where true peace begins: in the depths of our hearts. And this is why those we remember gave their lives in war, so that, from the horrors of that war, peace might be born. Nevermore war, never again. ~ Isaiah 2: 2-4
