Farewell to one of birth’s great visionaries HypnoBirthing's founder and defender of normal birth, Marie Mongan, died on Sunday June 16, 2019. Mickey saw the magnificent possibilities of labour and birth at a time when women in North America were routinely medicated, isolated and without agency. It was a time without videos or internet forums, a time when it was difficult for women to imagine anything but medicalized, disempowering birth.... Mickey understood deep within her that birth could be magnificent and she advocated for the birth she longed for and believed in, a birth where she would be in her own power and follow her instincts to bring her babies easily and peacefully into the world. She created the HypnoBirthing program to share her vision with the women of the world. HypnoBirthing contains her birthing wisdom, her inspiration and her techniques to guide so many women and families around the world to the wondrous births they long for. Mickey has inspired so many of us to birth in our own power. As a HypnoBirthing Educator I feel Mickey’s commitment and vision in every class. She has given me the great gift of inspiring the families I work with to trust in birth and in their bodies. As a trainer of new Educators I celebrate birth with them in every training and watch as their inspiration and passion grows. Being part of the HypnoBirthing movement is deeply moving and satisfying. I am indebted to Mickey for providing me with this most rewarding vocation and for what she has offered to families all over the world. Rest in peace Mickey.
