Honing shovel head Harley cylinders... Thought some of you might enjoy seeing how we finish bores here, exact to eachother every time. The hone head has 8 diamond stones for better geometry over the previous machines or hand hones with only two. Notice the torque plating fixture to replicate the cylinders assembled in an engine. We’re using the Ideal Supply CNC diamond stone hone which can rough then finish to exact cross hatch angles in the same cycle. Notice the hone has sensed tightness shown in the cylinder profile screen, at the top of the bore, so spending extra time there to correct straightness before going to finish size. We then run another 28 second cycle with a plateau honing tool only to remove surface peaks. This produces a surface finish ready for moly or cast ring sets. Enjoy!

Machine Shop Monday Another Ideal Supply engine restoration to this 1955 331 cubic Hemi. Similar in appearance to the cast iron 392 and 426 engines. With a nice set of valve covers and a paint finish it will make for a good looking street Hemi.

Machine Shop Monday Another blast from the past! This Ford 8N tractor engine was 120 cubic gas used from 1939-1952. We’ve only seen a couple of these here at Ideal Supply in 2020. However back in 1976, we did 48 of these popular engine rebuilds!

Machine Shop Monday Last week we said goodbye to our old Sunnen CK10 hone. It had been here since 1975 and was used on nearly every Ideal Supply engine built. Ideal Supply replaced it a couple years ago with a similar looking unit but with a CNC diamond cylinder hone. I'm sure the new owner will also appreciate the value it will bring to their shop.

Machine Shop Monday Another Ideal Supply 1966 Corvette restoration/rebuilt engine. All our complete rebuilds go through a spin test before they ship. This is a great tool for prelube, oil pressure, compression test, valve lash and valve train geometry checks.

Machine Shop Monday Big things sometimes come in small packages. Big Ideal Supply power in this small package. This Ford 302 rebuild is done its spin test and is heading back home.

Machine Shop Monday A lot of our bench racing over the years has been SB vs. BB (small block vs. big block). Today its now SB vs. BB vs. LS. Weve had the pleasure of restoring a few LS7 engines for retro mods. These are GM hand built engines 2006-2013 Z06/427 cube with aluminum block, 6 bolt steel caps and titanium rods. At 500 HP and 7100 rpm rating they rival any early BB 427 at far less weight than even the SB. Weve seen these bottom ends reaching over 11000 rpm at more than twice the rated power.

Machine Shop Monday Another successful Ideal Supply spin test on a 5.9 Cummins rebuild. You maybe interested to know, these engines come factory with only a front cam bearing and the remaining 6 journals behind that are metal to metal with over .010 clearance. We offer line boring to install all 7 journals with cam bearings and .003 clearances. Imagine the improvement to oil pressure, durability and valve train noise reduction!

Machine Shop Monday We never know what will arrive here for engine restoration. This is a John Deere model D cylinder. This one is the later model from 1927 to 1954, with larger bore than the early 1923 models. With only 2 cylinders measuring 6.75, with a 7 stroke it comes in at 8.2 litres. Shown in the photo is also a Duramax piston at just 6.6 litres using 8 cylinders and a much shorter stroke. Ideal Supply is one of only a few builders capable of doing these large cylinders.

Machine Shop Monday! Results from the Beatty & Woods Dyno. This budget 383 engine package made a very impressive 530 Hp with just a couple pulls before any final tuning.
