Good morning and welcome back! Throughout this week, we’ve introduced our Organ Function Series as we take a look at the 5 vital organs, some general information, their functions + avenues to help support their health and maintenance. To recap - On Monday we covered the liver. A processing center for everything we eat, drink, breathe and/or rub into our skin. On Wednesday we discussed the kidneys, another filter for our blood, waste and extracellular fluids. Today, we dive into the command center of our mind & body - the brain. To learn more, scroll down to our next post!

Taking some time today to help a friend out with a few back stretches This is great for scapula movement and thoracic spine mobility, with self-directed intensity for active release of your mid & low trapezius muscle, as well as your Rhomboids and Teres Major. @tp_therapy If you only have access to a single lacrosse ball, no problem - complete this flow unilaterally. Give it a try and DM me if you have any questions!... #staymobile

The brain consists of over 100 billion (with a B) nerves that communicate with TRILLIONS of connections we call synapses. Areas of the brain have specific functions of their own but work in close conjunction with other sections through the basal ganglia. Thinking and voluntary movement begins in the cortex, the brain stem controls functions like breathing and sleep. The cerebellum is responsible for coordination and balance. We then have the various lobes of the brain which have functions of their own. The frontal lobe being responsible for judgement and motor function, parietal lobes manage sensation, handwriting and body position. The temporal lobes are for memory & hearing and the occipital lobes are home to the brain’s visual processing center. Check out our last post to learn more about what you can do to support a healthy brain.

Mustard for back pain. This is a weird one even to me so let’s look at how that works Herbalists call mustard a rubefacient which means that it stimulates warmth when applied to the skin. Similar to cayenne pepper, mustard depletes a particular set of nerve cells that transmit pain signals from the back to the brain. (In fact, mustard oil is the main ingredient in at least 1 brand-name arthritis salve) When using mustard for pain relief, I’d suggest soaking a cloth in stro...ng mustard tea and apply the compress to the sore area. Cold season? Mustard can be used to ease headaches, fever and congestion. Soaking your feet in hot water with a little mustard powder can accomplish a number of goals. By drawing blood to the feet, mustard can help unblock your head, ease fever and soothe headaches. This eases the pressure on your blood vessels in your head, helps disperse congestion and increases circulation. To be clear, we’re not talking about French’s Mustard lol There are several varieties of mustard seeds including black, brown and white (what we know as yellow). To learn more about mustard and it’s additional uses, take a look at our last of today’s posts!

Mustard, who’d have thought it had uses beyond burgers, hot-dogs and show prep Did you know mustard is a close relative of broccoli, cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables? It’s been known for a long time that mustard has the ability to thin mucus, making it easier to breathe when you have a cold or flu but mustard actually contains a variety of chemical compounds with impressive healing effects including: Athlete’s Foot, Back Pain and Headaches. Let’s take a closer look... Firstly, mustard delivers Myrosin and Sinigrin, chemicals that make mucus watery and easier to eliminate from the body. (There are even mustard pastes you apply topically to your chest to relieve stuffiness) Next, fingers and or toes cold? A mustard compress increases blood circulation and creates a warm, tingly sensation for those cold extremities. Digestive concerns or feeling as though you have a loss of appetite? Adding mustard to your food increases the flow of saliva and digestive fluids to stimulate appetite if you’re under the weather and not eating well. Thanks for tuning in with us today and check in this Wednesday as we take a look at a few more household items used to promote health & healing in our newest Witch Doctor Series from the #spectrumhealthteam
