#tbt Another story in Infront’s history. In 2004, around the release date of Microsoft Operations Manager 2005, John Hann was notified that he was going to be a Microsoft MVP for MOM. John was excited by the industry recognition. And then he learned a Rory McCaw had been nominated just days before him, so John was the second MOM MVP. About a year later, at John’s first MVP Summit, John was invited to a gathering by a company that wanted to publish books by MVPs. At th...at gathering, he met Rory for the first time. They had traded emails and had been on Microsoft product team calls, but never met in person. From time to time, John would do some scripting or even a couple Ops Mgr training courses for Rory. John even introduced Mickey to Rory. John remembers TechEd in Boston in 2006: Gordon Contagious McKenna had a sprinkler incident and Rory had to host their session alone. It took another 10 years, but John joined Infront almost a year ago. He is Master Buzz to clients using Infront’s Beekeeper software, which saves clients hours and money by providing an automated patching and validation solution that bolts onto SCCM, or rather compliments it (it is not a replacement). Throwback Thursday Where does the time go this week, one of our many star Principal Consultants, gave the Infront team a PowerShell POP Quiz. Luke Swords had a bug in his Snow Alert program. Snow Alerts are very important to skiers like Luke. Luke shared the script, and the team, including those that don’t know what snow looks like, started a snowball fight over how to solve the bug. Powershell Tip: The bug seems to be caused by the Metric measurement system instead of t...he Imperial measurement system code. But there were a variety of solutions and workarounds provided. This sparked a memory for our CEO, Rory McCaw, who shared the following story of why Luke Swords was hired over 5 years ago at Infront. Wow!!! This brings back some great memories. Some of you might know this but not many. This definitely qualifies as a story that is a part of Infront’s history. Part of the reason we hired Luke was that he used the PowerShell snow report during his interview with us. To be clear, there were many great reasons to hire Luke but I thought that this really demonstrated his knowledge of PowerShell and highlighted that he had interests outside of IT. A number of us were out at the Microsoft Campus in the late fall at an MVP conference during the time that we had been interviewing Luke. We decided to go to Whistler skiing for the weekend and arranged to meet Luke at the Keg Steakhouse in Vancouver on the Sunday on our way back to Toronto to get to see him in person. That was a great dinner, even though I took a vegetarian to the Keg (not Luke) and was the beginning of Luke’s journey at Infront. Thanks for jogging my memory on this!! Good times!! It is with great pride that our Climbing to Azure Infront team made it to the top of the CN Tower yesterday for the United Way in Toronto--that’s 144 flights and 1,776 stairs! This is a HUGE accomplishment! Our superstars were Robert Dryja and Rory Mccaw, with completion times of under 20 minutes! Here’s a picture of part of our team. Saeed Sheikh and Anas Sheikh succeeded in completing the climb at a later time. Unfortunately, they missed getting their pictures taken at the photo booth. Congrats to all who participated and let's beat our times next year.
