Why is it so hard to lose weight and keep it off? Do you find it hard to stick to your weight loss plan? Have you tried to lose weight and found the pounds won’t come off easily or they come right back?! You are not alone. The fact is, when we shed pounds mechanisms are triggered that make it hard to both lose weight and keep it off. Some factors are within our control, but many are not. Understanding how the biology of weight loss works will allow you to be patient with ...the process and kinder to yourself. Obesity is a real medical condition. It’s inherited by our genes; it’s centered in our brain; it’s influenced by our environment; and weight loss efforts affect our metabolism. This is why weight loss is not as simple as eat less, move more. Visit the IHC blog for Dr. Karen McGee's 6 part series on weight loss. https://www.integratedhealthclinic.com/weight-loss-series/ #integratedhealthclinic #weightloss #blog

Anxiety is heightened in many right now due to the global pandemic. Many are offered a prescription medication before ever investigating other treatable causes for the anxiety. Below are 5 of the most common causes of anxiety I come across in my practice. 1. Thyroid Issues 2. Low iron 3. Low Blood Sugar 4. Too much or too little cortisol... 5. Low progesterone In some cases it can be a mixture of any of the above plus other factors! That is why it is so important to be worked up by a licensed Naturopathic Doctor. We know what to test for and what to look for and what specific factors may be contributing to your overall health. As well, we can come up with a protocol that best addresses the underlying causes. In some cases the anxiety may be so severe that you may want or need a prescription anti-anxiety medication while we work on the underlying causes as well. The good news is that Naturopathic Physicians in BC have prescribing rights and can prescribe most medications when indicated. Link to blog in bio. CranioSacral therapy is a gentle, hands on way of sensing where the body is imbalanced physically. Over time, I have developed more sensitivity and find that often these physical sore-spots often hold emotions that we haven’t let go of. The technique can also be used to help re-balance and release. It is also an essential component of any post-concussive treatment plan I create. CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle hands on method of assessing and treating asymmetry in th...e body. The goal is to re-establish natural body rhythm in order to allow for healing. Conditions suited to CranioSacral therapy include GERD, bloating, hip pain, chronic muscle tension and post-concussive syndrome. Children are particularly responsive to CranioSacral Therapy and the technique can be incorporated into a visit or booked with one of the qualified ND’s who does CST. How to prepare for your CranioSacral visit: The treatment can be booked for any amount of time (most commonly 30 minutes). Wear comfortable clothing. - Dr. Nicole Duffee

The most commonly used fillers are made from a substance called hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in the body, particularly the skin. Treatments involving dermal fillers give aesthetically pleasing and elegant facial contour. The result is immediate and often lasts as long as 9 18 months. These substances are harmlessly used by our body and disappear in time. Unlike surgery, there is no substantial downtime associated with procedures, other than mild bruising. For beautiful and natural results, injection of dermal filler requires experience, finesse, and artistry.

Nutritional needs change dramatically once pregnant. As caloric and nutritional needs increase, often nausea and lack of appetite co-exist. This makes it challenging to meet nutritional and hydration needs, and there are many treatment options available. Other common concerns that we treat during pregnancy are: leg cramps, insomnia, low/high blood pressure, headaches, restless legs, carpal tunnel, yeast infections, and common colds/ flus. With preparation, some conditions can be prevented such as: gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, positive beta-strep, and post term dates.

Holiday stress. Buying gifts, baking, Christmas events, family functions, wrapping gifts, mailing cards, kids out of school.. the list is endless. This time of the year is one of the busiest for most people and it is important to make time to relax and destress too. After all it is a holiday, for a reason.
