Stall bar lat stretch This clips shows one of the best lat stretches we have found. If you do any serious strength training, it is very likely that your back mu...scles, in particular latissimus dorsi, will have become very tight. One test is to place your back against a wall (with the feet out a foot or so); bend the knees, and flatten the lower back against the wall (a 'posterior pelvic tilt'). Now try to lift your arms overhead without letting the lower back off the wallcan you place straight arms against the wall too? If not, your lats are too tight. Kit's colleague in this video is Craig Mallett. Craig has recently released an excellent book entitled "Dancing Between the Opposites: A Daoist Guide to Balance and Self-Cultivation". Find full details on his website at https://www.craigmallett.com/book/. #stretchingforeverybody #stretchtherapyhome #kitlaughlin #oliviaallnutt Craig Mallett #stretchtherapyworks #lats #stretchtherapy

Kneeling lateral flexion A brief six-minute excerpt (two cameras) from a Stretch Teacher workshop. Olivia demonstrates and leads a 'follow along' version of thi...s excellent lateral flexion stretch. The kneeling position makes the exercise very stable (more so than standing versions for some people). #stretchingforeverybody #stretchtherapyhome #kitlaughlin #oliviaallnutt #stretchtherapyworks #spine #lateralflexion #stretchtherapy

Thoracic fascial release Olivia and I discovered this on a workshop a few years ago. Sometimes the limitation to a particular movement is not in the muscles or ...the skeleton it can be in the superficial fascial layer and no amount of conventional stretching will change this. This video demonstrates a manual release for the thoracic area of the spine, and if your fascia is limiting you in the forward bend, using this release should make a significant improvement. #stretchingforeverybody #stretchtherapyhome #kitlaughlin #oliviaallnutt #stretchtherapyworks #fascialrelease #thoracicmobility #stretchtherapy

Lying neck lateral flexion and scalenes Part one is a lying neck lateral flexion exercise, followed by part two, a lying scalenes stretch. We feel these are bes...t done together: part one is the 'warmup' and part two really gets deeper. Please note that all Stretch Therapy "stretching" techniques are also strengthening techniques, too, because we use isometric contractions as part of the process. The contractions strengthen the muscle in the part of the range of movement they are applied in, and if excessive tension is the cause of the pain you are experiencing, the same contractions result in a relaxation of the muscle. #stretchingforeverybody #stretchtherapyhome #kitlaughlin #oliviaallnutt #stretchtherapyworks #neckstretch #stretchtherapy

RollStretch upper traps release Liv demonstrates an upper trap release, RollStretch-style. As we are all spending WAY too much time on the computer or phone the...se days, we thought this will be useful. All you need is a hardish ball (or a duo-ball) and a floor. Done lying on the floor, this can be an intense sequence, but this same aspect allows you to relax deeply. #stretchingforeverybody #stretchtherapyhome #kitlaughlin #oliviaallnutt #stretchtherapyworks #uppertraps #stretchtherapy

Supraspinatus and frozen shoulder Let Kit take you through a stretching exercise, then an activation exercise, for supraspinatus, a small rotator cuff muscle of...ten implicated in frozen shoulder. In this program, Kit refers to an earlier video about frozen shoulder, which you can view here on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/StretchTherapyKitLaughlin/videos/906927013136878/. #stretchingforeverybody #stretchtherapyhome #kitlaughlin #oliviaallnutt #stretchtherapyworks #frozenshoulder #stretchtherapy

Range of Strength podcast Parts One and Two Kit recently recorded a two-part interview with two young North American coaches whom Kit has never met, Lucas Aar...on and Jeffrey Wolf, but who have been working with the Stretch Therapy material for the last six years or so. Jeffrey has perfect front splits; and Lucas has perfect side splits. Part one concerns Kit's personal journey through middle-distance running, Olympic lifting, dance school (the worst student!), and the two year period where he trained in a pro. boxing gym, and worked the door of a nightclub in King's Cross. Part two is more philosophical in nature. Links to video and audio-only versions are below. Rotator cuff: stick techniques This clip shows ways of using sticks to stretch, and strengthen, the internal and external rotator cuff muscles. You will need a ...long stick (around 1.25m or four feet) and a short one (600m or two feet). Follow along with the instructors; the beauty of using the sticks in this way is, firstly, to be able to find any tender lines in either internal or external arm-in-shoulder rotation, and secondly, using the same tool to concentrically strengthen the same muscle--tendon--fascia line. One of the great advantages of using the sticks this way is that we will be strengthening the tissues at the *end of the range of movement*; this is hard to do using conventional approached to strength training. The second sequence shows how to use a short stick to massage many impossible-to-reach-on-your-own spots on your back. In particular, a pesky little muscle called serratus posterior superior can be directly worked. An accessory breathing muscle, it can cause pain that feels like it's 'under the shoulder blade'but usually you can't get to it. In this exercise, the shoulder blade will have mover around the ribcage, exposing this muscle to direct pressure. #stretchingforeverybody #stretchtherapyhome #kitlaughlin #oliviaallnutt Physical Alchemy #stretchtherapyworks #stretchtherapy

Skandasana and Cossack squat variations One of the aspects of our work is that we are always searching for new approaches that make doing an exercise possible f...or more peopleso away from 'elite' performance and elite bodies to what any person can doand hence can benefit from. In this video are variations on two of our favourites: Skandasana (there is a very similar movement in Chinese martial arts) and the Cossack squat. Both are unparalleled for strength and flexibility combined: mastery of these two 'strength" exercises will improve any legs-apart movement you are trying to acquire. #stretchingforeverybody #stretchtherapyhome #kitlaughlin #oliviaallnutt #stretchtherapyworks #stretchtherapy
