FROM THE MIDDLE AGE TO DATE PANDEMIC CRISIS OR NOT, ITALY CONTINUES TO SHOW HOW TO LIVE, PARTICULARLY ART, WITH FOOD AND WINE People that in the past 21 years travelled to Italy with me remember that two years ago when our group was invited by Marquis Piero Antinori at a reception he held for us at his medieval Palazzo Antinori in Florence. Prior to enter his residence I did show some of the participants an opening on the palazzo exterior wall. These openings commonly found in many wine producing aristocratic Florence palaces are still used today, particularly at this time, and are known as "Le Buchette del Vino" or Wine Holes. During the truffle season, for as long I remember my dear friend Alberto (originally from Venice) places an order in Italy for white truffles. As soon these tubers arrive in Canada he organizes a dinner where he invites some friends that appreciate good food but more important being Albert like myself a lover and collector of good wines, a vast selection of outstanding wines are present in his cellars and served with truffles. Let the pictures speak for themselves. I say thi...s because today when I went to visit him, soon after my wife and I arrived at this place, Alberto knowing that I prefer red vs. white wines asked his wife if she could go downstairs and take a bottle of red wine. When Gabrielle came back and placed the glasses and the bottle on the table, by recognizing the label I screamed , "Please not this bottle, it is too good for this occasion". Soon Alberto and I realized that not only she brought a bottle of Turriga (valued today more than $200) but it was also a 1999 bottle that he bought when years ago visited Sardinia. In lieu of the Turriga we drank a bottle of Barolo. . See more

Let's do it with a small contribution to the Red Cross that with its Doctors, Volunteer, Nurses and First Aid Ambulances are at the forefront of this tough battle, endangering their health and lives each daily whenever they leave home to do their jobs. True heroes. I am sure that all of us will accept the invitation of the Italian Embassy in Canada to make a small contribution to the Red Cross because even a small drop contributes to form a sea of Hope, Solidarity and Love ************************ Ai miei amici che pur se lontani sono Italiani e ai quattrocento e piu Canadesi e Americani che visitando con me l’Italia negli ultimi venti anni hanno mantenuto solidali legami con il nostro paese, lancio accorato appello per aiutare I nostri fratelli e sorelle che in Italia lottano strenuamente e con coraggio contro il COVID19. After two weeks in Sicily, participants, by spending one week in Marsala and one week in Noto near Syracuse (All UNESCO world heritage sites) were able to visit a dozens by tasting almost 80 different wines to experience ...that their superior quality versus prices when compared wit other wines contributed to today’s success of Sicilian wines particularly in Europe in the USA . As far as Canada talking with Sicilian producers they stated that although Sicilian wines are very popular in Ontario and Quebec, they perform not to well in Nova Scotia Maybe the Sicilian producers should consider to establish a stronger liaise with the Nova Scota Liquor Commission During the two weeks spent in Sicily, the participants discovered also the history and cultural richness of this island, by visiting, The Norman Palace, Catacombs , Monreale Cathedral, Erice, Trapani Salt Flats, Agrigento Valley of the Greek Temples, Segesta, Baroque and Unesco towns of Ortigia, Syracuse Archeology Park Noto, Modica, , Turkish stairs, and more.
