Most coats, especially those that are waterproof should be professionally cleaned. Dry cleaning uses solvents to remove dirt and odors from certain materials that water and agitation would ruin. Fabrics that are water proof, stain resistant and fire proof etc have gone through a process to achieve this. Washing these in a washer with water could ruin the effectiveness.
