ZOLAS Italian Restaurant and Pasta Shop in Bells Corners, Ottawa, is thrilled to present for its special New Year’s Eve stay-at-home live stream jazz performance ‘Ms. Sparkle and the Mistletoes’ with vocalist Betty Ann Bryanton (Ms. Sparkle), pianist David Miller (Mistletoe 1), and alto saxophonist Ian Schwartz (Mistletoe 2). ZOLAS has been featuring live jazz every Saturday night for the past ten years and is a huge advocate of supporting local arts of all forms. Despite the... major challenges facing local restaurants at the present time, ZOLAS is committed to continuing to support local jazz musicians, especially those who in March saw a major source of their livelihood live performing disappear overnight, by booking them for live stream jazz performances and paying them a fixed fee. This is also benefiting Ottawa’s jazz audiences, who are able to see their favourite local jazz musicians perform online. In addition, as John Wilson said, This series does more than bring good music to our homes during COVID; it helps keep our (Ottawa jazz) community alive, by seeing our friends perform and chatting with others during the concerts.. Performers’ fees for ZOLAS’ live stream jazz performance series are covered by donations. You can make a donation to the series, and (for donations of $100 or more) sponsor a specific live stream jazz performance, by visiting https://www.gofundme.com/f/zolas-takeout-tuesdays-live-stre. This is a paid advertisement. Many members of the Ottawa JazzWorks community have benefited as performers and/or audience members from the popular ‘ZOLAS Live Jazz Saturday Nights’ program which has been running for ten years and which, of course, was suspended in March of this year with the closing of all restaurant dining rooms in Ottawa. Despite the major challenges facing local restaurants at the present time, ZOLAS is committed to continuing to support local jazz mus...icians, especially those who in March saw a major source of their livelihood live performing disappear overnight, by booking them for live stream performances and paying them a fixed fee. In case you’ve never been to ZOLAS, it's a family-owned and operated Italian restaurant and pasta shop in Bells Corners in the west end of Ottawa that has been in operation since 1986. ZOLAS’ stay-at-home live stream jazz performance series (I’m the organizer) was launched in May of this year. Note that ZOLAS live stream jazz performances have moved from Saturday evenings to Tuesday evenings. However, the Tuesday December 29th ZOLAS live stream jazz performance is being replaced by a special New Year’s Eve live stream on Thursday December 31st. I will be sharing the live stream post to this Facebook page on Thursday just before 7 pm. You can support live jazz in Ottawa and, in turn, ZOLAS by: making a donation to ZOLAS’ live stream jazz performance series (https://www.gofundme.com/f/zolas-takeout-tuesdays-live-stre) every penny donated (after live stream promotion expenses and GoFundMe service fees) goes to the performers' fees pre-ordering your ZOLAS New Year’s Eve pickup or delivery package (delivery anywhere in the City of Ottawa) either the ‘Heat + Eat’ or the ‘Hot Take-Out Dinner for Two’ by visiting ZOLAS’ website (https://zolas.ca/), and enjoying your ZOLAS meal while watching this very special New Year’s Eve live stream performance Thanks ... Chris Thompson

The ‘ZOLAS Live Jazz Saturday Nights ONLINE!’ live stream performance series is intended to help local jazz musicians, especially those who normally depend on live performances as a major part of their income, by paying them for their live stream performances. In fact, a survey of about 1000 Canadian artists and cultural workers indicated that, as of May 27th, 83% (!) of respondents’ average arts-related income is expected to be lost or at risk through the end of the year (...https://hillstrategies.com//impacts-of-covid-19-on-canadia). Performers’ fees for the weekly ZOLAS live streams are being covered by a GoFundMe campaign www.gofundme.com/f/zolas-live-jazz-saturday-nights-online. Donations to date have covered the first ten live streams in the series from May 9th to July 11th (https://zolas.ca/events). Note that the series is taking a break for the rest of July and August. The next live stream performance in the series will be on Saturday September 12th. ZOLAS (series sponsor) and Chris Thompson (series and GoFundMe campaign organizer) would like to recognize and express their extreme gratitude to those whose donations have made the series possible to date: Patricia Balfour (sponsored Tim Bedner and Elise Letourneau on May 30) Christina (Tina) Bates Nancy Bergeron Tom Bryant Michelle Castonguay Martin Choquet Francois Clément Vicki Comeau Nathan Corr Mandy Crow Doris de Margerie Debby Dubrofsky Conrad Duhaime Doug Ferguson Dominique Forest (sponsored Roddy Ellias on May 23) Alrick Huebener Tim Leah Anna Lenk Anne-Marie Lizotte Susan McCarthy Sarah Meyer David Miller Mary Moore Karen Oxorn (sponsored Laura Anglade on May 16) Jaime Posen Pauline Proulx Karen Rauh Stephen Richards Gordon Rowland V Santos-Pedro Diane Ross (sponsored Tim Bedner and Elise Letourneau on May 30) Lance Schwerdfager Jerry Sociedade Allan Temple Cathy Thompson (sponsored Diane Nalini and Adrian Cho on June 13) Chantal Thompson Leslie Toope Hélène Vigeant Michelle Walklin (sponsored Mark Ferguson on June 6) Deborah van Wyck John and Linda Wilson (sponsored Lucas Haneman and Megan Laurence on May 9, and Diane Nalini and Adrian Cho on June 13) Leanne Wood ... and the additional thirteen donors who wished to remain anonymous
