CHOIR ACADEMY - THE HEART OF VOCAL HARMONY: EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION IN GROUP SINGING See Full Post on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CHIz8GVDTvC/ SINGING FROM THE SOUL... Emotional expression is the heart of choir harmony. Two elements that can encourage emotional expression: (1) Understanding a song's context. (2) Maintaining a harmonious choir environment. 1. UNDERSTANDING CONTEXT The general mood of a song should be felt before a note is sung. The reading or discussion of the text during rehearsal will help to establish a feeling for mood. However, it is the responsibility of the conductor further to inspire his group through facial expression, posture, and manner of conducting. 2. HARMONIOUS ENVIRONMENT Mutual admiration, respect, and love is at the heart of a great singing group. Without this atmosphere, emotionally connected singing will be difficult, if not impossible, as several of your members will have their guards up worried about how they will be perceived. PRAYING TWICE Dont forget! Singing from the soul is praying twice. As St. Augustine wrote: "he who sings his prayer prays twice. But before this praising of God in song can be truly prayerful, the spirit of praise must run high in the soul. The song of the lips must first have been a song in the soul." #JKMChoirToronto #ChoirAcademy #TipoftheWeek #Harmony #HeartofHarmony #SingfromSoul #UnderstandingContext #Unity #HarmoniousEnvironment #SATB #MusicScore #Monday #ChoralMusic
