As Black History Month begins, we celebrate the contributions of a community who has played an important role in advancing art, music, sports, culture, science, human rights, and more despite adversity and discrimination faced along the way. Throughout the month, we will be sharing a few notable examples via our social media channels. Black History Month provides an opportunity to reflect on racial equality, and consider the part that each of us plays in making our communi...ty a welcoming and supportive environment for all people. Jewish Federation of Winnipeg is proud to join with Canadians across the country in celebrating Black History Month and Black Canadians of yesterday, today, and tomorrow. #BlackHistoryMonth #jewishwinnipeg

Jewish Federation of Winnipeg joins CIJA, B'nai Brith Canada & Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center in expressing deep disappointment with the Canadian government’s decision today to vote in favour of a U.N. General Assembly resolution that affirms Palestinian self-determination, while failing to affirm Jewish self-determination in the indigenous and ancestral homeland of the Jewish people, intentionally erasing historical Jewish connections to Jerusalem including the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest site. Learn more and read the full statement below. #jewishwinnipeg

The Jewish Federation of Winnipeg applauds Facebook's decision to update their hate speech policy to ban content that denies or distorts the Holocaust on its platform. Holocaust denial is one of the most insidious and extreme forms of antisemitism and used actively in online spaces to promote hatred against Jews. We are grateful for the hard work of CIJA, Holocaust survivors, and all who advocated for this overdue revision to Facebook's policy. As long as social media is used as a space to promote hatred and antisemitism, our advocacy work on this topic will continue unabated. If you see content on Facebook or other social media platforms that denies or distorts the Holocaust, we encourage you to report it immediately. #jewishwinnipeg #holocaust #neveragain

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Barry McArton, z"l. Barry was an incredibly committed, enthusiastic, and caring member of our community. A true leader, he was the Combined Jewish Appeal Campaign Chair in 2019-2020, a member of the Board of Governors for the Asper Jewish Community Campus, and a dedicated volunteer for numerous other organizations. Barry was a go-getter and was full of life and energy. Above all, he was a mensch. Last year, Barry dedicate...d himself to personally calling every donor to the Combined Jewish Appeal, to thank them. No job was too big or too small for Barry, he was always the first to raise his hand to help. Through his volunteer service, he immeasurably improved our community while personally impacting those who had the privilege of working with him. Barry’s legacy will live on. He will be deeply missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Carol, his children, grandchildren and extended family. May his memory be a blessing. #jewishwinnipeg
