HOT OFF THE PRESS Attention SCOTIABANK Clients ONLY: Further to the announcement to provide mortgage relief to customers impacted by COVID-19, a new policy and process has been developed.... Customers may now defer mortgage payments associated with up to four properties, including primary and rental/secondary homes. Deferral request can be made through the COVID-19 page on Scotiabank.com or by calling 1-800-4SCOTIA (1-800-472-6842) A mortgage payment deferral means that customers are not required to make regular payments (principal, interest and property tax, if applicable) on their mortgage for up to six months. During the time mortgage payments are deferred, it is important for customers to understand that interest will continue to accrue and will be added to the mortgage account balance at the end of the deferral period. This means their payments will be slightly higher after the deferral period ends. Customers will pay more in interest over the life of their mortgage, but a deferral will also help impacted customers with their short-term cash flow. It’s important to make our customers aware that they can contact us if they want to cancel their mortgage payment deferral and restart their payments before the end of the deferral period, with a minimum of two weeks’ notice. For customers electing for deferred payments, the Bank will send a mortgage payment confirmation letter with new payment and cost of borrowing information at the end of their deferral period.

Hi everyone, I hope you are all being safe out there at the moment and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. For those of you that missed my industry update on my instagram stories (@vancitymortgage); here is an excellent video that outlines how some of the banks and insurers are able to assist you should you come into any hardship with making your mortgage payments due to the COVID-19 pandemic.... It's imperative to reach out to your lender directly to discuss options as they are determining assistance on a case by case basis. As customer service agents are inundated with requests, please be patient and kind :) This is a fluid situation as everything unfolds; please do not hesitate to contact me and try to reach out to your lender prior to missing any payments. Thinking of you and your families during this unprecedented time. https://www.cp24.com/video

Our good friends over at Spagnuolo & Company have put together a short video explaining Title Insurance. When you purchase a property you can expect a title insurance cost added into the overall closing costs - title insurance is typically in the range of $200.00 but when the property is over $1m that cost increases. Take a peak at Tony's video.... If you didn't know...now you know :) https://www.youtube.com/watch
