5 TIPS FOR TRAINING AT HOME: FIVE PILLARS OF CLIMBING PERFORMANCE that you should address during your home training sessions. Dr Yasser El-Sheikh aka The Rock Doc PILLAR #1: FINGER STRENGTH Train finger strength using a hangboard, performing high quality, near maximal efforts. Do this using Maximal Added Weight (MAW) or Minimum Edge Depth (MED) methods.... PILLAR #2: FINGER POWER Train finger power using campus board exercises. WALL CAMPUSING: Don’t have a campus board? Campus on your home wall. HANGBOARD CAMPUSING: Don’t have a home wall? Campus on your hangboard. PILLAR #3 CORE STRENGTH Strong shoulders, trunk and hips are essential for keeping your body on the wall, particularly when climbing steep terrain. Train your core using sling training, front levers, and other calisthenic exercises. Progress to front levers starting with tuck hangs, to single leg lever, then eventually full lever PILLAR # 4: MOBILITY Training for mobility will improve your movement efficiency on the wall, with the added benefit of helping to prevent injury! Yoga practice is perfect for improving mobility and flexibility of your entire body. PILLAR #5: MOTIVATION Motivation is essential for hard training and high performance in any endeavor. To stay psyched while training at home: 1) Set short-term training goals to track your progress. 2) Set long-term climbing goals and train with them in mind. 3) Keep the training varied and fun for you. Be safe, stay psyched and have fun! Rock Doc #joerockheads #climbinggyn #climbingtraining #fitness #homewall #bestboulders

Got any nutrition questions? We’re hosting a q+a session with @pegah_vaz - ask her a question below and she’ll answer them this Wednesday at 12pm. Receive general nutrition advice to help you better understand the importance of eating well and how it relates to your training and climbing goals.... We’ll randomly pick a winner from everyone who submits a question for a 1:1 sesh with Pegah to talk more about your nutrition goals for the new year and help come up with a plan to get you there. Pegah has a BSC in Neuroscience + Food and Nitrition from Western University and is currently doing her Masters in Public Health and Nutrition at University of Toronto. #joerockheads #libertyvillage #toronto #climbinggym #climbing #bouldering #fitness #nutrition

Lockdown Round 2 - We’re hitting pause again! Unfortunately, we will not be reopening on December 1st as originally planned. We want to thank all of you who have supported us since our reopening in July. Everyone has done an amazing job keeping each other safe at the gym so we ask you to keep doing this by staying home as much as possible so we can get back to doing the things we love to do.... All memberships will be frozen for free ($0). If you wish to continue supporting us at this time by keeping your membership active please send us an email at [email protected]. Please stay safe and healthy. Do not hesitate to reach out to us for anything. We’re still all in this together. Joe Rockhead’s Team #joerockheads #stayhome #lockdown2020 #fuckcovid19

Joe Rockhead's Indoor Rock Climbing 02.11.2020

To our members, The last 2 weeks have been difficult for us since the government imposed a 10 person limit for our entire 12,000sq.ft. space. We have been trying to come up with ways to keep you climbing throughout this time but that has proven quite difficult given how quickly the sessions fill up. We know that this has left most of you quite frustrated and we do not want to exacerbate this situation by not listening to your feedback. Therefore we have decided to freeze all ...memberships starting November 1st, and open up sessions for day pass purchases by MEMBERS ONLY. This decision has been made in light of two factors: a planned 10 to 14 day closure in November to remove and replace most of the bouldering and route flooring, and our inability to satisfy the demands of our members within the restricted capacity imposed upon us. This new system will make sure members only pay for the climbing that they can book, and will give us a more flexible revenue stream to help us cope with whatever uncertainty lies around the corner. The Details All members, including memberships already frozen, will be switched to a $0/month freeze on November 1st. We will communicate later in November if we intend to continue this policy into December or not. Reservations will continue to be available to members only, which includes anyone on an active or frozen membership as of November 1st. Bookings can be made up to 3 days in advance, but each booking will require a $23 Session Pass purchase. We encourage our members to use the RGPro Connect app to make their reservations, as this allows you to auto-fill some fields and save time when booking. Refunds for Session Passes are available up to 24 hours before the start time of the reservation, after which late cancellations are not eligible for a refund. Access to Up The Bloc will also be unavailable while your membership is frozen. If you wish to climb there, A Session Pass must be purchased. Thank you for your patience and continued support. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us. - JOE

Booking Update... For the purpose of allowing more members a chance to make a booking, members are now limited to making reservations up to 3 days in advance. We ask members to limit their bookings to 2 visits/week during this current period of hyper-reduced capacity. As soon as current restrictions are lifted we will revert back to our previous policy. We are also considering extending our hours starting next week to allow more members the opportunity to book a session. Prop...osed hours Monday-Friday 7am-12am and Saturday-Sunday 8am-10pm. We understand that this maybe an inconvenience but we appreciate your understanding and cooperation. JRH #joerockheads #climbing #bouldering #climbinggym

This is @butterbeerneil - he’s our resident trad daddy and he loves crack (climbing). He loves crack climbing sooo much that he even brought in his personal stash of @wide_boyz to share with us all. Thanks Neil! FYI it’s a 5.8 if you use the tops of the volumes for hands or feet. 5.10+ if you only use the crack.... #joerockheads #climbinggym #crackclimbing #grippedmagazine #climbinglife #routesetting #routesettersofinstagram
