Hey, How's your summer going? Mines been going as planned, and that doesn't seem to be my plan.... strange how the universe desides a lot of what we do...How th...is journey called life takes us down many paths. It twists and turns until we get to a fork in the road....This can be many things... A relationship changes... there is a death of a loved one.... we find we are pregnant.... we get sick.. we loose our job... and many others, but these types of events always bring us to the fork in the road and a decision on which way to travel must be made...we can stay on the same old path or we can set out on a new one...It takes courage to choose the new path. It has unknowns. It's full of what if's.??? People are used to the old you.."maybe no one will like me if I change?"...it's easier not to change-----but!---it's way harder too! If you are at a place where the universe is urging you to travel a new path, then it's best to pluck up the courage and take that first step, because it seems , if you don't, there's a high price to pay. A sense of unease can develop... anxiety...resentment...anger... and all the emotions that develop from not following your true will....these changes don't have to be radical, it can be as simple as trying for a new job. training for your first 10 k run. going to a yoga class once a week. cutting out junk food for a week Desiding to hug 5 people every day ... It doesn't matter, begin the path with small steps..and soon you'll have gone a mile.. and then you'll want to go two...and thus the new journey will be well on it's way. ...and the changes will become immense....So, look out for the changes that can take to a new place in your life and embrace them ,no matter how small they may be... Have a great rest of the summer and we'll see you in September when our classes begin again for the fall....till then, take care and maybe we'll pass paths....namaste', Tracy See more

On the Subject of Anchoring.....What is Anchoring?....This is a term now used in therapy and various self help genres...at Johnston STREET Yoga we have been learning the classic Sun Salutation sequence. Teaching the importance of "binding" the breath to the movement. We always start out with at least 3 rounds of this "moving meditation"... Why do we do this?....First of all, Sun Salutations warms the body to prepare for the postures coming up in the class. It releases tensio...n in the body. Begins to prepare the systems in the body and also, is very effective to "set the deeper intentions" for the class. and , most importantly ,creates a different mindset than the one you had when you first came onto the studio...It calms you, puts your focus on your body and the present moment...It clears your mind! And this is where Anchoring comes into play... by doing the sequence over and over again the mind will grab onto the feelings associated with the particular movements that you are practising...and this works really well when you need a break from any stressful situation after a hard day....Do a Sun salutation and BOOM! your mind anchors to it and you receive the same calming effects in one round... do 2 and alls good... Yogis have been "anchoring " for about 5000 years. There's many ways to "anchor" and thru the study of yoga it justs gets better and better..And the beauty is, is that you can do a Sun salutation anywhere. I've done them in airports, on lawns, the beach, even in a friends bathroom when I couldn't get a break from all the meyham...So, remember, set your sails, but when the seas get too rough make sure you've got a good anchor...Every one Welcome to come out on Thursday Nite...Nameste' See more

Comitment.....On the first nice thursday that we've had in, it seems, a long time, I'm thinking about the class that's coming tonite...At first my ego tells me that,"no-one is going to come! it's too nice out...might as well cancel" But , my higher self knows that Krirstin and I will be there. that the space is great. that we'll feel like 100% when we leave the mat... That, the sense of community only grows with being steadfast, and realizing that everything worthwhile has sac...rifice,so, it's okay to go and practise tonite even if no-one else shows up.... This is YOGA. Travelling on the journey with your own comitment to continue on the path no matter what the weather. No matter what comes up in life... So, for any one interested in doing some Sun Salutations tonite, we'll see you at Johnston Sreet Yoga at 7:15... come a bit early to prepare your mat,and for those of you with out mats ,we've got some you can borrow....Either way we'll be there...have a great day! Just as a note.... Some people have contacted me to let me know that Johnston "street" isn't close to D.T.C. tatoo....That's because it's on Johnston ROAD.... we call it street yoga because it's in a tatoo shop and it might be a little cutting edge for some folks... So we're on the main Johnston road, across from 7-11 and pete's mountain meats. rite by the Surf/skate shop, Totally board. Okay, it's all good....See you tonite...Namaste'

Making space...in our bodies... in our minds ... in our life...So, we'll see you tonite and let's make some space....Tonite at 7:15 Namaste

How Not TO GO TO A Yoga Class!....The hardest thing about yoga is actually doing yoga...Strange... I've talked myself out of going to classes ,to workshops ,toIndia(only once) and of course,I've neglected my home practise for whatever stupid reason I can....But the old saying regarding yoga is the truth..."yoga is one percent talk and 99% practise".. There's just no way of getting around it. And it brings us to 2 major points that involve the self study of yoga.. The first is... disipline....Yikes!! That's a hard one. It's the hardest part of yoga. SHOWING UP! On the mat and in your mind...When NIKE say's "Just do it", they're not kidding, and niether is the guru( which just means teacher). And that brings us to the next major point about yoga...Just who is it that's talking you out of going to do some yoga? It's your over active, can't turn it off, oh my god, I'm staying home mind. It's your ego. It never stops. Just try to focus on your breath for 30 secounds with out thinking any thots....... It takes alot of disipline to clear your mind. It takes yoga to create space inside the constant chatter of your mind. It is the quieting of the mind that is the biggest reward of all. Sure the fittness is great but that's just part of it. As the mind begins to clear, the true voice is heard. It doesn't happen over nite. This is the practise. This is the disipline. To over ride the voice of excuses in your mind and get to a class where ever it is...Just do it! Just start! Becauseif you do this, you have taken the first step, cause, honestly, no one else in a yoga class really cares about you. Not what you wear. Your waistsize. Your thighs. How silly you look (no worries everyone looks fabulous). Your hair. what car you drive. whether you can touch your toes. Honestly, they don't. And if they do...well...sadly..they're just listening to their own chattering ego and should study yoga too! ...It's easy to not go to a yoga class. But to go...to make it to the mat..now that's the real work...thats the disipline...thats the yoga...Nameste' Tracy See more
