Is a Defendant's intent relevant? It depends on what you are charged with.

What kind of fees do I offer? Block fees: Block fees are the most common type of fees charged. I perform a service or group of services in exchange for a fixed fee. Block fees are charged at different stages of different processes. Contingency fees: Contingency fees mean that no legal fees are billed for unless money is collected. Contingency fee percentages range depending on the likelihood of success, amount of work required, and type of case. Court fees and costs ass...ociated with the action are still the responsibility of the client at all stages of the process. Criminal and Quasi-criminal cases cannot be taken on contingency. Hourly rate: Hourly rates are billed for every hour of work completed in 15-minute increments at 90$ per hour. Want to sue for $25,000 or less but don’t want to pay legal fees unless you win? I may be able to work out a deal with you where you only have to pay the costs of the action and disbursements unless you win. This means that you will only have to pay filing fees and any out of pocket expenses associated with the action upfront but the legal fees are contingent on you winning your case. What is even better is that you also get to keep any costs awarded to you by the court wit...hout paying a percentage of them to me. Generally, a contingency fee ranges from 25%-35% of the principal amount depending on a range of factors including how complicated the action is and the chances of success. Please note that not all cases are taken on contingency and that I can only be retained for a contingency case when a contingency retainer is signed. Criminal and quasi-criminal offences are restricted from being taken on contingency by the Law Society of Ontario but I do take on a variety of other cases with flexible fees and retainers including traffic tickets, by-law offences, provincial offences, human rights cases, and landlord and tenant cases. Sally bookkeeper is in arrears of rent for 4 months totalling $6,000, Bob Landowner wants to be paid back the $6,000 arrears of rent owed to him. What is the proper forum for Bob Landowner to retrieve his money?
