This week, is National Volunteer Week! Thank you to the over 500 volunteers who bring their passion, skills and time to Joseph Brant Hospital and the JBH Foundation. You make an important impact in the lives of patients, their families and our community. We have missed seeing our volunteers in person over the past year due to the pandemic, but look forward to when they are able to safely return! Thank you all for your commitment and dedication. Since March 12, the Halton Region COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at Joseph Brant Hospital has administered 10,000 doses of the vaccine to our community members. This represents an important milestone in our fight against COVID-19. Vaccination is extremely effective in preventing COVID-19 infection, including protection against serious variants. We are proud to have a dedicated Community Partner in The Angel Project, their commitment to healthcare in our community means so much to so many. Each year The Angel Project supports the Complex Care and Palliative Units and our Mental Health Programs at our Hospital. In the past two years, The Angel Project has donated over 400 comfort kits to support our Inpatient Mental Health Unit. We thank them for their incredible $25,000 contribution in support of our Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinic!

Please note that we have updated our masking policy effective today, December 17, 2020. Joseph Brant Hospital now requires that all patients and visitors don a medical-grade mask. Cloth masks will no longer be permitted. This change is being implemented to help reduce the spread and to keep staff, patients and visitors safe as cases across the community continue to increase.... Everyone entering the hospital is required to wear a mask. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided by screeners at the hospital entrances. Those who refuse to properly wear a mask will not be permitted entry. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask, we will work with you to accommodate your needs and ensure everyone’s safety. We would like to wish a very special little boy a happy birthday today! Elliott Butlin was born on this day in 2016 and his mother Natalie recently shared with us some very heartwarming words about our NICU staff that we have been given permission to share with our community: On December 16, 2016 my son, Elliott, was brought into this world by Dr. DeJong. He had RDS and was treated in your NICU before being transferred to McMaster for a 5-day stay, and later transferred ba...ck to Jo Brant. He spent his first Christmas in the JBH NICU while he learned to feed and gain some weight. On his first Christmas, your nurses gave him a little Santa hat, koala bear and an ornament with his teeny tiny foot prints on it. I wouldn’t know how to begin to explain how much these things mean to me. Every year when we decorate our tree, while misty eyed, I show him his tiny footprints and share the story of how he spent his first Christmas in the hospital. We use the hat the nurses gave him to top our tree. It’s amazing to think how my very healthy and extremely tall 4-year-old once fit that hat, and had those feet, but he did! I had both my children at Jo Brant and loved both of my experiences. You have some very, very special nurses who probably don’t know or understand that when they’re not busy being super heroes, their acts of kindness make such an impact on peoples/parents/patients hearts. Thank you for helping to bring my babies into this world, and for every extra ounce of love you provide to families. Thank you, Natalie, for sharing your story with us!
