Rest in peace my bro, you will be missed and never forgotten, with love, your homie Joshua.

I just found out from a friend i grew up with that his brother, a good friend of mine was found dead of an OD the night before last. Definitely breaks my heart thinking of all the good times me and my bro shared, he was always a good kid even if he got into rough things, my deepest condolences and prayers for his family who have been tragically impacted. I will miss his goofy smile whenever he saw me cleaning up the southside and how proud he was to tell people i was his fr...iend, how he'd tell me how happy he is for me for turning my life around, getting sober and doing something good for the community. He will be missed and his struggles in life will not be forgotten, bro i will continue fighting the good fight and i will stay sober for the people like you who i care about, the people who lost their lives battling with circumstances sometimes beyond our control, and for drugs that steal the lives of so many of our youth, our brothers, our sisters, bestfriends and lovers before their time. R.I.P. Colton, i love you bro.

There's nothing wrong with being your own best friend, caring for your self, and interests that advance your livelihood, don't be shamed by others for looking out for yourself! Stand with your convictions, who you are and what you represent and compromise for no one but yourself, only you know what's best, only you know the direction and path in which you take, until someone walks a mile in your moccasins, you should never let there criticisms, indecisiveness in viewpoints shallow your dive into the journey of life. Be strong and be proud of who you are!

Power in Thunder Bay would have you believe it is comfortable discussing racism. It is not. Thunder Bay city manager Norm Gale was the second person Ryan McMaho...n and I contacted on Sept. 8 when we started researching our podcast on systemic racism, "Return To Thunder Bay." https://www.canadaland.com/p/trailer-return-to-thunder-bay/ Gale refused to speak to us, kicking it down to corporate strategic services director Karen Lewis, who contacted me on Sept. 22. She kicked me to Lee-Ann Chevrette, who declined an interview on Oct. 2, in turn passing me on to Cynthia Olsen. Olsen agreed to meet with us on Oct. 7, which she then pushed to Oct. 8, a full month to-the-day after our initial call to Gale. We also requested to interview the Indigenous Liaison officer Regina Mandamin, which the city flatly denied. For the record, Olsen tried her best but it was borderline unfair to pose her questions outside of her department. Also, she coordinates the drug strategy -- a far cry from the person who ought to be leading the conversation Gale says we "must" have about racism. The reason Gale is so important is that in our system of government, the city manager is technically the only employee of city council. He holds the sole responsibility for ensuring the wishes of our elected council are executed by the bureaucracy. All I'm saying is that if Norm Gale was sincere about having this discussion, we wouldn't be 51 days into this without having him on the record.

Rear view reflections, looking and leaving the past behind for a better life. 4 years ago I began my journey to Sobriety, a turning point in my life for the better. It wasn't done alone but with the help of friends, family, faith and my community. It took hardwork, perservence, sacrifice, being down, being up and sometimes feeling like I wanted to give up but I refused to quit. I had a dream sleeping in my friend Arthur s SUV about an angel that pulled me from shadows trying... to pull me down, I realize the shadows were just my doubts, fears and traumas about what had happened to me, what could happen to me and who I could be. The strength was the willingness to accept help, that I wasn't living the life I wanted to.. It isn't weakness to ask for help, to recognize your flaws but it's a symbol of strength and renewal of the self. I also learned that recovery isn't just about addiction, it's about traumas too and learning how to be yourself again. Stay strong, stay positive and if your struggling please reach out for the help and tools out there to guide you. #keepitreal #motivation #inspireothers #october2016 #recovery #alcholism #selfcare #inspiration #su4cu #thunderbay #standup4cleanup #recoveryally #rearviewreflections
