You can use it to find out where every kind of waste goes. The tool is even available in the FundyRecycles app so you can use it on the go!

We deliver loads for our customers to the Crane Mountain landfill on a daily basis. We've gotten pretty familiar with what goes on there - and some of it is pretty cool for sustainability! Did you know Crane Mountain produces electricity using the methane gas in their capped landfills? In 2015, they produced enough electricity to power 192 homes in addition to their entire facility. That amounts to more than 2 million kilowatt hours of additional electricity, sent right to the Saint John Energy grid.

The world will be observing Earth Hour tonight at 8:30. It's an opportunity to reflect on what else we could be doing to minimize our carbon footprint as individuals and businesses. For JTR Services, that means being as proactive as possible in reducing waste here in Saint John. From 2002 to 2016, the amount of waste diverted from landfills in Canada grew by 2.6 million tonnes - that's a 39% jump! We want to keep being part of that solution. We're working on opening a facility where our dumpster loads will be sorted and reusable items will be diverted from the landfill. Stay tuned - we'll provide more updates on this project in the coming weeks and months! In the meantime, happy Earth Hour!

As small business owners, it's important for us to give back to our community. One of our key areas of focus is on education. Prior to Covid, JTR's owner Matt Joyce was volunteering as a mentor with the PALS program at St. Rose School in Saint John. He feels that donating time to mentorship is just as important, if not more important than donating money.

We think it's time to give our friends at PALS - Partners Assisting Local Schools a shoutout for the great work they're doing in the community. Just recently they held a Cereal and Snack Drive over the course of three weekends - a great initiative for a non-profit that's recently celebrated its 20th birthday. Keep it up, PALS!

We love seeing the Saint John region grow - and we often get to see it firsthand. Right now, JTR Services has equipment at almost every major apartment building construction site in Saint John. We are very proud of all the local developers that have decided to invest back into Saint John. It's exciting to be a part of these projects that grow our community!

We have a lot of rock heads that rent dumpsters - and sometimes they get rid of their heavy metal. We come across a lot of items in our dumpsters that don't need to go to the landfill, so we try to rescue what we can. The coolest save we've made so far is this guitar. We took it home, cleaned it up, and it works!

We pride ourselves on always being responsive to our clients' needs. When a local long-term care facility called us on a weekend, we made our fleet of dumpsters, portable toilets, and portable storage units available the same day. We continue to work with the team there, providing follow-up services and replenishment to support their current needs.

Garbage sorters from Ulyanovsk, Russia rescued a cat that was a whisker away from getting sliced and diced by the automated garbage separator. The animal was d...iscovered within a plastic trash bag (insert obligatory cat in the bag joke). According to the crew's director, the cat turned out to be well-fed, clean and well-groomed, meaning that its previous owner quite literally threw it away. The animal was not injured but was frightened upon its rescue. This is the third time in the last two months where employees of the garbage sorting plant found animals when sorting waste. Previously, two red-eared turtles and an African hedgehog were similarly rescued.
