ML READY MIX CONCRETE expands their operation on Judson Street in Mimico - TransCrete now operating out of the City owned site - a property that the City purchased for just under $5 million dollars, specifically to eliminate concrete batching in the residential neighbourhood - it defies logic - Mark Grimes 416 397-9273

here's a MARK GRIMES quote from the Etobicoke Guardian January 12, 2017 - our man of action - notable is his admission that he's been dealing with this since 2003 - not a typo - ML READY MIX is still in full operation today and have even expanded to include at least 2 other ready mix companies operating from the Judson St site - does anyone else believe that with a different councillor, ML would be long gone? EXCERPT FROM ETOBICOKE GUARDIAN the Ontario Environmental Review Tr...ibunal dismissed ML Ready Mix’s appeal of terms and conditions of its Ontario government-issued Environmental Compliance Approval. ML Ready Mix is a legal, non-conforming use as it relates to city zoning. Area councillor Mark Grimes said the city’s effort to relocate ML out of the neighbourhood is ongoing. We have our thumb on them, Grimes said. We’ll continue to work to see where we can relocate them. It isn’t happening fast enough for residents, but I don’t have a magic wand. Grimes added he is personally committed to relocating the concrete company. I’ll keep working at it, Grimes said. It’s a tough one for me. Grimes said. I’ve been dealing with this since I was elected in 2003. I’d like to get them out of there. in 2003 Mel Lastman was still Mayor - nice job Mark

Demolition of another heritage building? this one is adjacent to the city owned ML Ready Mix Concrete site at 29 Judson Street - believe there was some interest in a heritage designation - too late now

DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ML READY MIX CONCRETE IS LEAVING ANYTIME SOON! THEY'RE STILL AT IT! have been trying to ignore ML's disruption for the last several weeks as any complaints or reporting of violations are ignored anyway but, this morning it was particularly annoying considering that they should have relocated long ago... ML READY MIX CONCRETE - NOISE, NOISE, NOISE MONDAY MARCH 29, 2021 the banging started at 7:57 am - the usual excessive, loud, prolonged banging on metal during the cement powder unloading process - a Stubbe's cement tanker exited their gate at 8:52 am after nearly an hour of intolerable noise also they are loading and removing scrap concrete today as well - another disruptive regular part of their operation - an activity that was not disclosed in their Environmental Compliance Approval application many years ago - we have yet to receive a reasonable explanation why the noise and trucks resulting from this normal procedure is not regulated - the trucks are more disruptive than any of the regulated truck types - and the loading process is usually worse than the noise from tailgate slamming, which is prohibited and attention City Transportation: the Judson Street roadway is an absolute mess from ML's gate all the way to Royal York Road on the south side with excessive gravel on a popular cycling route - also notable that hardened concrete from previous ML wet concrete spills on Royal York Road at the Judson Street intersection have never been properly rectified and could be hazardous (same intersection where a cyclist tragically lost his life in December after a collision with a ML Ready Mix truck) apparently they will be able to delay their relocation for a few more months - our neighbourhood community which includes the Mimico Village BIA are likely in for another summer from hell!

unbelievable that ML READY MIX CONCRETE is still in full operation although their driver has been charged - a preventable tragedy - it was not only the truck driver's negligence that contributed to the tragic death of a cyclist at Royal York Road and Judson Street in Mimico

more on the tragic death of a cyclist involving a ML READY MIX CONCRETE truck - it gets even sadder as we learn more about the victim and his life - and ML continues in operation as Mark Grimes claims that the City does not have the "authority" to shut them down - so then, WHO DOES???

SOUTH ETOBICOKE COMMUNITY NEWS coverage of the tragic death of cyclist John Offutt involving a ML READY MIX CONCRETE truck Area resident John Offutt loved to cycle and it was cycling that took his life. The recently retired school teacher was out for a cycle on November... 20 when he was involved in an accident in the Judson Steet and Royal York Rd. area with a cement truck, that took his life. Flowers and a ghost bike have been left to remember his death. Former student A Hafeez says Offutt was his kindergarten teacher at Thorncliffe Park Public School. He was a teacher who quit his real estate job to help kids succeed in a low income neighbourhood, Hafeez wrote on social media. It is truly amazing that someone would do that. Hafeez says Offutt was a good man who loved his students and wanted them to succeed. His death has angered members of the Judson Street community, who have been complaining to the City for years that ML Ready Mix is an uncooperative neighbour. Residents have repeatedly cited the dust, noise and pollution from a steady stream of cement trucks (right) that daily frequent the ML Ready Mix yard, on Judson St. Police said Offutt, 59, was cycling southbound on Royal York Rd. when the truck driver, going southbound as well, allegedly made a right turn on Judson St. and hit the cyclist. The tragic loss of life was made all the worse by the certain knowledge that it was preventable, a citizens advocacy group wrote. Members said City Council spent $5 million to buy the Ready Mix property in July 2018, with the goal of moving the operations to the Port Lands. The company under an agreement had a year to move to its new site on Commissioners Street. Mimico area residents are being urged to sign an online petition, which has several hundred names, to request the concrete plant be developed into green space. Green space and parkland is urgently needed in the neighbourhood, the petition states. Please help push development of the property to provide a beautiful place to enjoy with family and friends. The relocation of the plant presents an opportunity to further consolidate concrete batching operations in the Port Lands, while at the same time reducing land use conflicts currently experienced by the residents of the Judson Street community, the group noted. The petition will be circulated to Mayor John Tory, Councillor Mark Grimes and other City officials. See more

Another tragedy in the immediate vicinity of Royal York Road and Judson Street (Cavell Ave) - and also earlier this morning a block away, the demolition of the historic cottage at 98 Superior (at the corner of Cavell) proceeded despite protesters and City heritage and most of the neighbourhood in opposition to destroying a historical house
