Well, after 23 years of teaching I am announcing my retirement. Teaching art was one of my best joys. Sharing the beauty and passion for art making filled my he...art and was truly a satisfying carrear. I attended to Alberta College of art and university of Calgary for 5 years. That inspired me to teach because, honestly, I thought I could do better. I taught kids the guesture approach to drawing right out of my 2nd year text book. Many Art teachers and my peers at the time thought I was crazy...that young children could not learn this approach and it was too advanced for them to understand. But I did it..and they all learned how to draw. It was one of my great wins in life. I am coming up to 55 now, sadly my disability makes my internal organs think im 65 and I no longer have the stamina teaching requires. I also have senior moments now and then..which embarrasses me terribly. My disability has to do with my brain and the effects of early childhood trama. This also seeped into my work, as teachers are on the front line in identifying child abuse. I like to believe that I made a difference in some of these kids lives. I found I loved kids and adults on the autistic spectrum. I think because they are such artistic geniuses. They would produce incredible artwork. The adult classes were amazing as well. Many of my students have become life long friends and I love them all. They fill me with such joy to see them paint and launch art carrears of their own. I have sold my teaching studio to a new business in Calgary, who happens to be my sister Katie Pearce. She is now opening a teaching/ gallery in Calgary. She is starting this journey and I wish her all the best. I know she will do great and pass along her vast art based knowledge on to the next generation. Carly Schmidt ,Kamloops art party has my library of art books and is offering art classes in Kamloops. She has a wonderful teaching studio for adults and kids. I am now painting full time and have a vlog on cfjctv Painting in Nature. Little plein air out at Mt Dufferin today. I was sitting on quite a steep grade...I had my chair Jamed in a bush for stability but my paints loosened up and started to sail down the hill. I managed to grab the paints with my left and my painting with the right.
