We have two sets of teeth in our lifetime - primary (baby) and secondary (permanent/adult) teeth. The primary begin developing in the fetus as early as 6 weeks after conception with the secondary beginning around 20 weeks. Though this initial development of cells happens very early, it continues after birth and as the teeth begin to erupt. See the eruption charts attached for average times you should expect to see the teeth coming through the gums! The #CanadianDentalAssociation recommends bringing your child in by 12 months old, or six months after the first erupted tooth. Check out what to expect at their first visit here: https://karodental.ca/proced/dental-check-ups-for-children/

Dr. Romanowski received her first vaccination yesterday - and the rest of the team is following her lead throughout the next couple weeks!! Together we will get through this!!
Happy #MeetTheTeamMonday!! Rhonda originally came to our office in 2006, moving away in 2012 and then returned to us in August of last year! She is happy to be back in Spruce Grove and back with the Karo family (the feeling is mutual ). As Dr. Romanowski's administrative assistant, she does so much to help the office run smoothly and we are incredibly grateful for her return! As soon as the snow starts melting, Rhonda spends most of her time outside. She loves camping,... quadding, boating, and recently picked up fishing - after a couple amazing experiences deep sea fishing in Florida's Key West, she's been "hooked" . When she isn't busy with her outdoor adventures, Rhonda is busy spending time with her two kids, refinishing old furniture or searching for her favourite winter accessory - toques!! Favourite quote: "A smile is the best makeup a girl could wear." - Marilyn Monroe
Another new month... let's make it great!!!
Just a reminder to give us a call if you can't make your appointment! We prefer 48 hours notice, but understand that given the circumstances that may not be possible... Even still, please let us know as soon as possible for any appointment changes. We also ask that you arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment time to accomodate for pre-screening. You might not go to jail ... but we really appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation!
Happy Birthday to Tennille!!! Not only is she an amazing hygienist, but just an all around awesome person... we are so grateful to have her as part of our team! Enjoy your day Tennille.
Think you may need a crown? We can help - potentially in one appointment! Not only are we able to offer lab crowns, but we also have the ability to offer an in-office made ceramic alternative. One of our dentists can assess your individual needs and recommend the best option for you! Read more about getting a dental crown here: https://www.healthline.com/find-care//dentists/dental-crown
Wow, that summer flew by... Whose ready for apple cider, pumpkin carving and piles of leaves? Happy first day of fall!
Wishing our wonderful dental assistant Amanda the happiest of birthdays today!! Her laughter, attitude and smile (although unseen these days under the masks) always brighten the office up. We love and appreciate you Amanda, have a great day!!!
Since reopening, there have been a lot of changes in our office; we wanted to let everyone know what to expect next time you visit the office! - All patients will receive a phone call reminder at which time you will be pre-screened and asked to wear a mask to your appointment. If you do not have a mask, one will be provided to you upon your arrival. - If you are signed up for our text message reminder system, you will receive a message one hour prior to your appointment... prompting you to respond when you arrive. Once you have arrived and responded, we will let you know when to come inside. - If you are not signed up for our text message reminder system, simply arrive at the office and enter the building. - Upon entering you will be greeted by our screening liaison. You will be asked to fill out a pre-screen form, put on your mask, sanitize your hands and have your temperature taken. - Once all prescreen protocols are met, our liaison will have you go upstairs and bring your sheet to the reception area where they will check you in and you can wait in our socially distanced waiting area for your practitioner to call your name. - In the operatories, you will be asked to do a pre-procedure rinse of diluted peroxide. You will then have your treatment done as normal. Upon leaving the operatory, you'll be asked to put your mask back on and sanitize your hands once more before returning to the front desk to finalize your appointment. We completely understand how frustrating these changes can be, trust us... we have our own new protocols to follow!!! They are time consuming and repetitive, so we really appreciate everyone being accommodating to them. We are doing our best to help protect our team, our patients and our community. Thank you to everyone for understanding!!!
#TuesdayNewsday Along with all the typical causes of bad breath, some dentists believe that wearing masks may be contributing to it... dubbing the term Mask Mouth! Because people typically breathe through their mouths while wearing masks and aren't drinking as much water, their mouths are getting dryer. This can cause a build up of bad bacteria in the mouth, leading to bad breath and potentially a higher cavity risk. Since masks are mandatory in many areas, some ways to h...elp prevent mask mouth would be to drink more water, cut down on caffeine, snag a humidifier (to help moisten the air), use an alcohol-free mouthwash, scrape your tongue, don’t smoke and try to breathe through your nose! Of course, regular dental hygiene and visits to the dentist are also essential to good oral health! Read the New York Post article regarding "Mask Mouth" here: https://nypost.com//mask-mouth-is-a-seriously-stinky-side/
We all know about Mother's Day and Father's Day, but today... it's Grandparents Day!!! Be sure to share a little extra love with them today.
We miss you!!! Please know that you haven't been forgotten; we are working hard to catch up on all the missed appointments. Was your appointment cancelled due to COVID? Haven't rescheduled yet? Give us a call at 780-962-6670 and we will be more than happy to rebook your appointment. We very much appreciate everyone's understanding during this time and are so sorry for the delays in rescheduling; we look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces again soon!!!
Remember to keep your retainers, mouth guards, myobrace and invisalign trays in their containers when you're not wearing them... they are easily lost and our pets love to use them as chew toys!
Did you know?!? More than 5 million teeth are lost or broken due to sports related injury every year. With school starting and extracurriculars well underway, we highly recommend asking about our custom sports guards at your next appointment! The office is closed today for Labour Day, but we will be back to regular hours tomorrow. We hope everyone has enjoyed the long weekend!!
Enjoy the last long weekend of summer!!!
We just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who made our 2020 Kid's day fun, safe and successful!!! While this years event was different to accommodate social distancing and other COVID protocols, we still had a wonderful day with all. We appreciate everyone being flexible, understanding and making our day enjoyable. Stay tuned for next years event!!!
Another month gone... the summer has flown by! Wishing everyone a happy and healthy September.
Happy first week of school!!! Did you know that 51 million school hours are lost every year due to tooth related illness? Here are some tips to help prevent that from happening: 1. Brush for two minutes twice per day; try to brush at the same time every day, that way you never forget!... 2. Floss every day... If you don't, you miss the sugar bugs on 35% of your teeth! 3. Replace any sugary juices or pop with water. The bacteria in your mouth LOVE to snack on sugar, but when they combine, they create acid in your mouth which translates to cavities. 4. Pack fruits and veggies in your lunch! Carrots, apples and cucumber are all high in vitamin A, which helps to build tooth enamel. Plus, their textures help scrub the teeth between brushing! See more
Tomorrow is our 6th annual KIDS DAY!!! Of course, given the circumstances of COVID-19, this years Kids Day will look a bit different than it has in previous years... but we still wanted to do something fun; we do look forward to it every year, after all! When you arrive, you will be screened and will give your balloon order in and we may look a little different in all our new PPE; unfortunately there won't be snacks like previous years but we have some other special take homes for you instead! Stay tuned for our stories tomorrow documenting the day!!!
We wanted to give a quick update on our office hours as they have changed slightly, see them listed below. Monday: 8:00AM-4:00PM Tuesday: 7:00AM-7:00PM Wednesday: 7:00AM-7:00PM... Thursday: 7:00AM-5:00PM Friday: 8:00AM-2:00/3:00PM These are uncertain times, so keep in mind, these hours are subject to change. We appreciate everyone's understanding!!!
Welcome Rhonda!!! You may recognize her, as she was a part of the Karo team as Dr. Romanowski's administrative assistant between 2006-12. We could not be more happy to have her return to that position and have her great attitude back in the office. Be sure to say hi at your next appointment!
A little #FridayFunny to get your through to the weekend... kids do the darndest things .
As you can see, there are many different avenues in dentistry... We are lucky to have four general dentists in our office with a wide range of skills and many years experience - more than 60 combined!!!
