Kaslo-Shutty Wildfire Corridor - Operations Update March 20: We are nearing completion of Block 1 at 0.3km on Branch 7 near highway 31. Sean Brenton has plowed snow to Block 4 with a small cat - which helps to dry out the road surface. Branch 7 remains closed to traffic from the highway jct. during the week, with harvesting in progress until approx. March 26. Gazetted Mt Buchanan recreation trails will remain open. Trails within Blk 1 are closed. We will progress into Block ...7 up-slope just before the beginning of April. The post-harvest clean-up contracts have not been tendered yet by the Ministry of Forests. We anticipate completing the harvesting in the middle of May. Clean-up /residue piling will follow but pile burning will have to wait until the fall. We will update the timelines here as well as on Facebook. Here a recent glimpse of our work in Block 1

2021 Kaslo Wildfire Corridor - resuming operations. Our wildfire risk reduction winter project in Schroeder Creek is nearing completion and we are preparing our return to Branch 7 for the spring to finish the remainder of the blocks. Here is an outlook to where the action will be, with approximate timeline.... We will be starting at 0.3km on Branch 7 near the highway next week and have hired Sean Brenton to remove snow on the first leg with a small cat. Branch 7 will be closed to traffic at the highway for approx. 2 weeks while harvesting is in progress. All rec trails will remain open. We will progress into the other units up-slope as the snow recedes. There will be a clean-up phase after harvesting is done. We anticipate completion of the project by the end of April / beginning of May excepting the pile burning, which will likely have to wait into the fall. We will update the timelines here as well as on Facebook.

Kaslo Wildfire Corridor Update We treated a corner of Block 4 in the neighborhood of the now empty Goshawk nest before moving on to Block 7. This will leave the bird undisturbed if it chooses to use this location next spring once treatment resumes. Final clean-up in Block 4 will be completed in the fall of 2021. Shane and Connor are now working in a portion of Block 7 along the lower end of Branch 7. The work area is abutting the road and therefore necessitates Branch 7 clos...ure when equipment is active. We are still on track moving operations to our Schroeder Creek Wildfire Risk Reduction Unit in early December until spring 2021. All Rec trails are now open but please use caution when you approach the small landing at the top of 'No Brakes' trail since Sicotte trucks are still loading out. The area is also quite muddy from equipment traffic. The short section of trails in this area may be roughed up. We much appreciate everyone's patience while we were working in Block 5 as it carried the highest impact to recreation in our CP43 cutting permit.

Kaslo Wildfire Corridor Update Harvesting in Blk 2 is now complete. Timber Ridge Contracting has been awarded the clean-up work in the blocks treated earlier and has moved back up to Blk 5 to finish. Please follow the former trail closures on the Wardner Viewpoint trail to the top, the 10km closure on the Buchanan Fire Access Trail, as well as at the junction of 'No Brakes' /East Access trail, while equipment is working to clean up and burn debris. Currently closed recreati...on trail sections will be restored during this process and reopen for use on November 13. Wildfire Risk Reduction harvesting in Block 4 to the north-east of Block 5 (see green 'Logging' indicator on map ) is scheduled from approx. November 13 to 25. Trail closures will apply to Bigfoot, Trump and Arlsbad during this time. Logging truck traffic will continue along Branch 7. Smoke will be visible from Kaslo in the Wardner area for the next 2 weeks. We are relocating operations by the end of November to implement a Wildfire Risk Reduction project adjacent to the Schroeder Creek community during the winter and will return to the Kaslo Wildfire Corridor in early spring to complete Blk 1 and 7 areas.

Road Upgrade Branch 7 Oct Long Weekend We have hired Brenton Industries to upgrade the rough bottom section of Br 7 Road to about 1km. Sean was able to schedule the works for the long weekend, likely starting on Fri Oct. 9. We apologize for any noise and use restriction you may encounter during this time. Please contact Sean if you have any scheduling questions 250-551-4058, [email protected]. This does not affect the use of Mt Buchanan Fire Access trail from the Brake Check trail head to the top of No Brakes Section.

September 22 Operations Update - Kaslo Wildfire Corridor Harvesting is nearing completion in Block 5 and Shane’s equipment will move downhill to Block 2 during the next few days.
