Lily was all for a good massage after a busy hiking weekend! Muscle fatigue and tension are common in the spring, since we often feel more motivated to get out and be active after winter hibernation. With massage, I aim to soothe sore muscles, then increase flexibility and strength to help improve health for future hikes ... #katiespeedremt #caninemassage #sleepydog #doglife #doglover

If your animal is injured or has a strained area, the body will try to rest or protect that spot by shifting the workload to other areas of the body, otherwise known as compensation. This gelding was presenting with significant tension in his mid-low back. Part way through the treatment, the entire mid-low back became very soft and relaxed...that’s when the problem clearly presented itself just behind the wither. In many cases, compensation can actually cause more problems ...than the initial issue, especially in the long-term. Sometimes it can even present itself as the main problem such as in this case. The best way to prevent this? Addressing areas of concern as soon as they appear. It’s a much more tedious process to eliminate these problems once they have made themselves at-home in your horse’s body.

I am currently enjoying some time living in Nova Scotia, but will be back in Ontario for regular visits. I will be in Cambridge from November 1st-7th, just in time for the Royal Winter Fair! I know that I'm always super motivated during this wonderful time of year, to do my best riding and have lots of horsey time. With colder weather and lots of work, our horses can benefit from massage to improve circulation and soothe aching muscles. Message me with any questions about massage or to book an appointment.

So true... Our ponies are worth it though! Even a regular stretching routine can make all the difference in your ride. There are stretches for every muscle group and after just one treatment, I can create a program of stretches specific to your horse's needs to improve their comfort and performance. Message me for more details on stretching or to book an appointment!
