Winter dry skin and painful cracked heels... We can make a tremendous difference in just one visit to Kawartha Total Foot Care Centre for treatment. In addition to our in-office care and proper advice, we offer a number of specialized home care products to treat and prevent recurrence of dry skin and cracked heels. Important -- people with diabetes, immunological, and circulatory issues should be particularly concerned about cracked heels. Please also note, the moisturizing advice in this link should only be followed upon proper advice and never apply moisturizers between the toes as it can lead to skin breakdown.

WE REMAIN OPEN AT KAWARTHA TOTAL FOOT CARE CENTRE DURING THE CURRENT ONTARIO LOCKDOWN Dear Patients: Many of you have complimented our safety practices during this pandemic and how they put you at ease. As regulated health practitioners, we are legally required to follow strict surgical-level sanitation standards for our office, staff, and equipment, and the practices we have in place exceed even these levels. ...Continue reading

It's cold and flu season, and it takes on a new level of concern and even paranoia in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. This table is a handy reference to help distinguish the common symptoms of colds, flu, allergies, and COVID-19. Remember, this doesn't replace the advice of your doctor or nurse practitioner. And, even if it seems like you have the flu or a cold, you want to take all precautions not to spread these to others either. (Source of table: Intermountainhealthcare.org)

This is just a gentle reminder for patients attending the clinic. :)

Had to share this only because it was so funny... Facebook rejected an ad post with the explanation "avoid close ups of specific body parts." Get this, it was a close up of a foot! Foot clinic... foot image... would kind of seem to make sense?

With the summer heat, we're out more often if not most of the time in open-toed shoes and sandals. Sometimes we don't think to protect our feet from sun exposure like we would other parts of our body, but skin cancers of the foot are actually very common. Here's some helpful information. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/79115

Thank you to everyone for continuing to put your feet in our hands. We are truly grateful for your ongoing and overwhelming support for our services. Much has changed, and we wanted to provide some guidelines so that people know what to expect at their appointment. If it's your first time attending an appointment with us or if you're a current patient and this is your first time since the COVID-19 pandemic was declared, protocols are in place for increased patient and staff s...afety. We anticipate that this will be the case for some time, and so your patience and cooperation is appreciated. Please understand that these protocols are mandated by the government and our regulatory College and we cannot make exceptions legally and, as well, because the virus is still circulating and we do not wish to put anyone at preventable risk. If you do not follow the protocols, do not arrive on time for your appointment, or if you screen positive for potential COVID exposure, please understand that we will not be able to treat you. 1. The office will perform a COVID screening at the time your appointment is booked and again prior to treatment. This is a good deal of work and is stressful for us as well. We truly thank you for being a patient patient. :) 2. You will not be able to enter the building unless you have an appointment and are wearing a mask, scarf, or bandanna that sufficiently covers your nose and mouth. 3. If you have a confirmed medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask, please let us know at the time of booking so that we can make special arrangements. 4. Patients must enter the building alone for now unless prior arrangement has been made. If someone has driven you to your appointment he or she cannot enter the building at any time. 5. When you arrive for your appointment, the door will be locked. Our staff are monitoring the door for your arrival and we will conduct a COVID screening to let you in. Please arrive for your appointment at the time provided to you by our staff when your appointment was booked. 6. Please do not bring bags, purses, or any items other than those needed for the appointment and reading glasses if you wear them. 7. Contactless payment is preferred over cash or cheque. 8. Anyone feeling physically unwell in any way or feeling new or flu like symptoms will need to be rescheduled. Please do not attend your appointment in person if you are feeling unwell. Advise us by telephone or email. Again, we thank you for your patience and cooperation. It helps us to safely provide the level of care to which you're accustomed and minimizes the stress to our staff who are working extremely hard to ensure that we follow the demanding screening, sanitizing, and infection prevention measures.

Well, our first week officially re-open is complete. Truth be told, we are all exhausted. The "new normal" is a huge amount of work. But, we realize that it is for all of you as well, and all of us want to thank you for being so incredibly thoughtful and patient. We have heard horror stories of how local business owners are being treated, and everyone we have seen this week couldn't have been more wonderful. Admittedly, the current circumstances are a little scary in more than one way, and all of you have made it tremendously easier on all of our staff. Please know how how grateful we are and what a pleasure you've made it this week to begin seeing everyone again. Thank you.

Yesterday was our first official day returning to care, and it felt great to be back and making a positive difference in people's health. Patients were genuinely appreciative of and put at ease by the new procedures in place, the work we've done and the renovations we've made to ensure the clinic is safe for everyone. People were understanding of the new measures required for screening, distancing, and infection control -- including donning their masks and uber-chic booties! ... As will be the "new normal" with any primary health care professionals moving forward, these measures are much more work for staff and can be extremely stressful. Patients' patience :) is appreciated and we'd ask that you please continue to follow the instructions provided by our team carefully when attending appointments, be on time (not early or late), and please, please do not attend the office if you are feeling unwell in any way, have been exposed to anyone with even so little as a sniffle, or if you answer yes to any of our pre-screening questions. If we are unknowingly exposed to you in these cases, it can result in our having to shut down the entire office in order to self-isolate for a quarantine period. The rules in place by the Province of Ontario and the College of Chiropodists of Ontario are that stringent. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing all of you soon! As always, we are sincerely grateful and honoured that you've chosen to put your feet in our hands. The Kawartha Total Foot Care Centre Team - Nadine, David, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Kelly

Dear Patients... this is a publication from our regulatory college, the College of Chiropodists of Ontario. It summarizes the "new normal" at least for the foreseeable time when attending our -- or any chiropody/podiatry clinic -- for care.

Kawartha Total Foot Care Centre is reopening to care Monday, June 1! And, when we do open, we'll be extending our hours and adding Saturdays. We've missed everyone, and we know that patients are anxious to return for treatment. We'll be busy this week contacting patients to schedule their next appointment as soon as possible. Patients can also contact the office in the meantime at 705-738-3668, by emailing [email protected], or by completing the appointment request... form on our site http://www.totalfootcare.ca. Rest assured that we've been busy fitting the clinic to exceed the standards of care required to ensure the safety of patients and staff. We even invented and equipped our treatment chairs with transparent protective shields that open and close like a door! We'll be scheduling appointments in a way to ensure that social distancing can continue to be followed. To help us with this, we'd ask that you kindly attend your appointments at the time scheduled as we won't be able to accommodate early or late arrivals -- it's part of the "new normal" that we're experiencing as a result of COVID-19. Thank you so much for continuing to put your feet in our hands. Nadine, David, Jen, Stephanie, and Kelly

As a clinic owner, yesterday should have been a stressful day, a sad day, and yet it ended up being a delight. As a result of COVID-19, I had to call and cancel another block of patients from our schedule. Everyone was incredibly kind and happy to hear from us. Many of these patients I have seen for more than twenty years for care, and something like this truly makes you feel how much seeing them on a regular basis becomes such a meaningful part of you. As the list of calls c...arried on, I found that they were taking longer and longer because of the lovely conversations we were having catching up. It allowed me to check in on their foot health, but so much more. Thank you to everyone for the bit of sunshine in my day. We miss you and look forward to returning to care. In the meantime, here's wishing you a Happy Easter in howsoever you're able to celebrate it this weekend during these strange days. Nadine.
