"My diagnosis was a relief. Suddenly, I knew why I felt the way I did, and why I had a hard time living the way others did. But I can only imagine how much bett...er my life would have been if I had been diagnosed as a child and had the chance to understand myself at a younger age." https://undark.org/2019/11/28/early-detection-autism/

"The brains of some autistic children do not adapt to repeated touch or sound, even after several minutes, according to a new study. In most people, sensory sti...muli such as noises or unusual textures trigger activity in brain regions that process sensory information. If the stimuli persist, however, the brain tamps down its response. This process, called habituation, enables people to tune out unimportant sensations such as the sound of an air conditioner or the feeling of a wool sweater on bare skin so that they can pay attention to new information. The new study found that some autistic children dont show habituation and this may explain why these children show unusual responses to sensations, such as covering their ears in noisy environments or refusing to wear clothes with itchy tags" https://www.spectrumnews.org//sensory-overload-in-autism/

We missed those news while being in the woods camping off our devices There is a light in the tunnel and hope that the new needs-based autism programme the government is working on now will satisfy more rather than less children with autism and their parents! Recap! Re: May 27th, 2019 AAO had a few meetings planned that included Tim Porter, Amy Fee, and Marit Stiles. AAO went into these meetings with our needs-based ...plan in hand. As some of you may know, at our Solutions Demonstration, Nancy gave a detailed speech on our recommendations for a needs-based OAP. We since then have worked very hard with many professionals in order to produce a very detailed and inclusive plan. Tim Porter & Co. meeting: They were receptive to our detailed plan, and confirmed they would present it to the advisory committee for review. Marit Stiles (critic for education) meeting: Discussed getting more supports and increasing the understanding of special needs in school settings. Received a copy of our plan, and she mentioned that a successful OAP is imperative to a successful education. Amy Fee meeting: Sherri discussed SI-OT and its benefits to children with disabilities in detail, as well as discussed our needs-based plan. She also got a copy of our plan. In each meeting, we discussed ALL disabilities, as well as an Ontario Disability Program/Plan (ODP). We stressed that our plan works as a template for an ODP, as it is inclusive and based on individual needs. The last paragraph of our plan touches on this. While two of our board members were in another meeting, Nancy and I ran into the Premier in the hallway. We quickly, and professionally, introduced ourselves and asked for the opportunity to meet. To our luck and surprise, he asked us to meet in his office, to kill two birds with one stone, as he was already having an autism related meeting at that time. Premier Doug Ford & Co meeting: AAO presented our needs-based plan together as a group. We brought up all disabilities, discussed national strategy options, and, as one group, discussed the discrimination of other disabilities that has gone on far too long and needs to end now. The Premier and his team listened intently to our plan. They were quite receptive to its details, so much so that they stayed longer than planned. At the end of each meeting above, we asked if we could continue to meet regularly in order to update the Ministry on all things related to the OAP and its funding. Each ask was met with positive feedback and assurance of a continued open door for AAO. So far, nothing has changed (yet?). But, we left the meeting with the Premier with new hope due to the fact we were told that OURS is the ONLY detailed, specific plan they have received, and that they enjoyed reading through / listening to it. AAO is taking this meeting as a bigger step forward, next to the small step achieved after our solutions demonstration. We will continue with this momentum throughout the summer and hope that you all get a chance to read through our needs-based plan as well. Thank you again for your patience waiting on this post. We appreciate and realize it is difficult with all the stresses in our communities right now. But, we are in this together. Honourable mentions go to Faith and her beautiful little boy who were also part of our inclusive meeting with Mr. Ford. We appreciate everything youve been doing every single day at Queens Park. As well as Jamie, whom without his relentless advocacy we never would have bumped into Premier Ford in the first place and gotten that meeting at all. #weareunited ! Much love, Christine Levesque Chair for Autism Advocacy Ontario

When my son was first diagnosed on the autism spectrum the first thing I thought about was what his future would be like and what could I do to prepare him for ...a future where he grow and be successful, a school for children with autism opened in Abu Dhabi and it is changing my sons life, here is the story. Instagram: @khalidalameri Group: Khalids World Group This is the longest video we have published to date and it took a very emotional toll on both Adnan and I, we wanted to work our hardest to ensure that this story was told in the best way we know how and would make Abdullah proud, I believe we achieved that and it would not have been possible without the incredible work of Adnan, please join me in giving him a big thank you. Music by Epidemic Sound & Ikson I also want to give a big thank you to Her Excellency Sara Musallam Chairperson of the Department of Education And Knowledge and the Priory School team her team who spearheaded the project and worked tirelessly to bring this school to life, you are showing the world what is possible for these children with the right people and resources in their lives, I am so proud of you all. I also want to thank all the incredible teachers and therapists who work together to give our children the best education and the best hope of a future filled with success and happiness inshAllah.
