Many of us are looking forward to putting 2020 behind us. For the 190 children diagnosed with cancer in Alberta this past year and their families, 2020 was just the beginning of a lifelong journey. Despite advances in research, over 75 per cent of children who survive cancer live with permanent side effects. And although advances in research have improved the chances of survival, many children still die from the disease. This is why Kids Cancer Care’s programs are uniquely de...signed to meet the needs of the whole family at each stage of the cancer journey, from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. The foundation helps Alberta children and families by providing funding and programs in these key areas: Camp and Outreach; Research and Hospital; and Education Support and Scholarship programs. Please give generously this holiday season in honour of all kids fighting this battle, in memory of those who have lost their battle, and sadly, for those whose battles lie ahead. https://www.kidscancercare.ab.ca/direct-mail-donation See more

Nikki Lamarche has an extensive background in supporting people and education. With a Bachelor’s in Arts specializing in Therapeutic Recreation and a Bachelor of Education, Nikki has worked with kids on the autism spectrum, older adults and seniors with dementia and Alzheimer's in care facilities, adults with cognitive and physical disabilities, taught physical education to kids needing extra support, and worked within school boards in Ontario and Quebec. It was this diverse... experience that has made Nikki an important part of the Kids Cancer Care team since 2012. She has had roles as an outreach specialist and an education support specialist here. One of her proudest accomplishments is building and growing the Teen Leadership Program for teens ages 14 to 17 who have been affected by childhood cancer and certain hematological disorders. Patients, survivors, siblings and bereaved siblings enjoy opportunities to develop as leaders through self-reflection, peer support, skill building, volunteerism and a service trip. Nikki has led the teens on six service projects in four different countries (Mexico, El Salvador, Dominican Republic and Canada). Nikki has helped the teens raise the funds for these service trips, raising over $180,000. The skills Nikki has taught these teens has paid off. Many of them go on to become talented speakers, receive scholarships, and stay on as outstanding volunteers in the Kids Cancer Care community. With a big heart and a talent for bringing the best out in people, Nikki’s daughter is following in her footsteps. Five-year-old Avery recently completed over 60 km in the Kids Cancer Care Cycle Challenge and raised close to $2,500. We are so grateful to have you on our team, Nikki (and Avery too). #ThisisKCC

Families, check this out! Zippaport shirts are designed to make port access simpler. With a zipper that opens the shirt in just the right place, they help make children's cancer treatments easier. The vision is to distribute Zippaport shirts to any brave kid who requires port access. If your child needs a Zippaport shirt, please click here: https://www.zippaport.ca/ Inspired by four year old Sadie, Zippaport shirts are donated to pediatric cancer patients for free to help ease treatment days.

The holidays may have looked a little different this year, but for a child with cancer, everything is different. Your gift will help ensure Kids Cancer Care can continue to be there for families during these uncertain times. We need you to ensure we can continue this work into 2021 and beyond. Please make a gift today: https://www.kidscancercare.ab.ca/direct-mail-donation Due to recent COVID-19 restrictions and for the health and well-being of our community, Kids Cancer Care has temporarily closed its office. All staff are working remotely from home. If you are planning to make a year-end gift and prefer to drop off your donation in person, please email our director of philanthropy Genine Neufeld at [email protected] or call her at 403 930 6951.

Kylie Bradbury joined Kids Cancer Care’s team in December 2018 as our volunteer coordinator. She’s been a flight attendant, taught English abroad and in Calgary, and has been a volunteer manager. After one summer of coordinating the summer camp volunteers in 2019, she was excited to take what she had learnt in her freshman year here to make camp in 2020 the best one yet for our volunteers. But 2020 had different plans and the needs at Kids Cancer Care changed. While a flurry... of uncertainty hit our organization, one thing was for sure: we needed Kylie on our team. Kylie has taken on a new role as development associate here on the revenue development team and is excelling. As Kylie has grown in a new role here during the pandemic, her hair has been growing too. So, when we decided to go ahead with a physically distanced Big Brave event this fall, Kylie and her daughter Monique signed up! At the end of October, Kylie got her first haircut since the beginning of the pandemic and donated her locks for wigs through Angel Hair for Kids. Monique coloured her hair green and together they raised over $2,700 for Kids Cancer Care in honour of their dear friend Monica who passed away from cancer in spring 2019. Thank you Kylie for being a part of The Big Brave and for being such an amazing member of our team! #ThisisKCC
