The Bay is also considered one of Palawan's most significant coastal ecosystems. It is located on the western coast of Palawan of the Philippine island. Hundreds of hectares of mangroves and thousands of coral reefs and seagrass beds are found at the Bay.... Ulugan Bay is included in the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River and National Park, one of the two Natural World Heritage Sites in the Philippines. . The Bay is considered the most significant fish protein source of Puerto Princesa City, the capital of Palawan Province. It is the primary source of livelihood for the local population, and The uplands of the Bay are still heavily forested. Yet, lowlands have been cleared for agriculture and human settlement (Fazi and Flewwelling 2000). The presence of indigenous populations confers to Ulugan Bay's high cultural importance (Fazi and Flewwelling 2000). A naval is also located here at the Oyster Bay, adjacent to Ulugan Bay, the country's western coastline, to guard and protect the disputed Spratly archipelago.
