An amazing selection for your listening pleasure this weekend - thanks to our friends in Langley for this post!
We are so proud of our faculty as they adapt to keep making music with our students! At a time when arts and culture are proving most vital to our recovery, we have an important role to play in providing much-needed constancy and comfort. Be well, safe and immersed in the power of music.
Congratulations to our Executive Director, Lucy Benwell, after she and her family became Canadian citizens yesterday. "We have been made so welcome here in Canada, and today affirms a real sense of belonging", said Lucy. "The presiding judge emphasised the importance of the arts in a thriving community, and how we as citizens have a duty to take part. I feel very honoured to be part of the arts community here in Kelowna, alongside my KCMS family."
What an afternoon with Ian Parker! His energy, passion, humour and brilliant delivery of advice, tips and anecdotes - not to mention the stunning demonstrations - kept us enthralled. Thank you to the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra for this wonderful opportunity for our students. Wishing you all the very best for this weekend's concert series.
Rude not to when we have such a wonderful pool of talent in which to dip our toes. Many happy returns to our wonderful Administrator, Lori, and thank you Joe for the splendid rendition!
It's that "time" of year. Registration for May Theory/June practical exams closes on March 3rd. https://www.rcmusic.com/learning/examinations
Many happy returns to piano teacher Elizabeth Wocks. Her secret for maintaining her youthful energy and appearance? Spending almost 30 years sharing her passion for music with her KCMS students, of course. Happy birthday Elizabeth, with love from us all!
On this day, how about selecting music from the Romantic era? This period ran from approximately 1820-1900 (and no, we're not saying you have to stop listening at 7pm). A few suggestions for your listening enjoyment: Max Bruch: Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor Frederic Chopin: Fantasie Impromptu Op.66... Ralph Vaughn Williams: The Lark Ascending Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Romeo and Juliet Have a LOVEly, music-filled day!
A fun morning of clinics run by OSO musicians (including KCMS faculty members), ably assisted by OSYO students - many also from KCMS. Go to okanagansymphony.com for information on this weekend's concert series!
Please avoid using our driveway in this extreme weather. The steep angle and has caused several vehicles to get stuck. Thank you!
