This week: No equipment! Effective core exercises that can be done with nothing but your own body and a few square feet of floor space! _______________________ .... . . Video 1: Beginner. Table Top. Start on all fours. Knees directly under hips. Hand directly under shoulders. Elbow pits forward , zip the shoulders back and close the armpits. Draw the belly button to the spine, think about pushing the knees outward (without actually moving them out) tuck the tail and squeeze your ! Push actively into the floor with hands and feet and splay the fingers. 90 degree angles everywhere. Lift the knees an inch or two off the floor and hold. As soon as hips, mid section or shoulders start to fail, or you start to ‘tent’ , the set is done. Rest, reset, go again. ______ . . . Video 2: Intermediate. limb lift/shoulder touch. All above in place. Lift one hand, not too high, keep the arm straight. Or tap the opposite shoulder, slow and controlled. The goal here is to keep the knees low, hips and shoulders square with the ground and reduce rotation as much as possible. _____________________ . . . Video 3: Advanced. Walk out (push up option)_____________________ All above in place. Walk the hands out to full plank position. Add the push up if desired. Walk the hands back. When walking out and back simply flex or extend the knees, try to keep the hips from raising up through the the travel. Really playing pace, rpe, controlled increase and heart rate recovery. I was able to increase heart rate by roughly 10 bpm and maintain that roughly through general feeling. Happy with the rapidity of recovery after a 1 minute sprint. Cool down went well. Develops back, core, shoulder stability. Pull strength( arms, shoulders, lats. Anti rotation and leverage. Push strength (shoulders, chest, arms, anterior trunk.) sometimes we push , sometimes we pull, sometimes we do both!! . . #endthestigmaofmensmentalhealth I have so many things going on inside my head and my emotions often feel chaotic. Writing things down in a journal, re-reading them helps me pick apart the tangled mess that is my inner state sometimes. It helps me see what’s in there. If I’m overwhelmed, articulation is usually not smooth and effective. We need support. We need solidarity. So, if you need to talk, talk, if you can’t talk, I get it. Write, then. Do your knees hurt when or after you lunge? Do you find it difficult to keep the lead foot grounded and emphasis on the heel? (That could be why the knees hurt)... couple tips: 1. Take the shoes off! Especially if you wear running shoes or footwear with a raised heel. If you already tend to lean forward in the movement and you find it hard to keep the heel down, the shoes will only exacerbate the problem. Take em off! Also, if your shoes have foam soles, they are very unstable. Nice for comfort and standing still but not so hot for training. _______ 2. Don’t concentrate solely on the front foot/leg. There are two working legs. It’s easy to focus on the front. Try shifting 50% of your attention to the rear knee and reach for the ground. This will help keep the weight properly distributed up front and help keep the heel down. This works with any lunge exercise. As is being so skillfully demonstrated by my client, Ash here, this tip works well on the Bulgarian split squat as well. . . . . Pizza Post? Nope. Reflecting on Saturday night activities. 12 years ago vs today. 12 years ago I would have been preparing for Saturday night starting on Thursday. Now, every once in a while I overshot the Mark and partied too hard on Thursday and Friday and by Saturday I was destroyed so I’d simply lay on my couch, smoke dope and recover. Or I would party all day and night, ceaselessly jamming whatever substances were the favour that week that would facilitate staying on my ...feet and drinking enough booze to suffice for 4 people. Music was loud, I was seldom seated for long or at all, I couldn’t keep a conversation with one person for long before I had to refill my drink and move on. When I look at it now, how exhausting it was. To watch from afar would reveal someone who was so deeply disturbed and uncomfortable with life itself and how he felt inside his own skin that he constantly needed to move, drink, smoke, fight, fuck and any other number of distractions to help round down the sharp edges of his reality. _______________________ Fast forward to today. I crave and long for silence and solitude. A wonderful Saturday night consists of an AA meeting, half and hour in a hot tub and a homemade gluten free pizza. Heaven. Speaking with a friend earlier in the day around the subject of growth. My growth has been as a result of the process of removal, not addition. Removing the lies, the distraction, the noise, the chaos, the delusions and the false concepts of happiness. Pruning the non fruit-bearing, dead and/or shadow-casting leaves to open space for the light to enter and feed the soul so the truth can come forth and manifest itself. #therealparty #simplelife #grateful See more

Truth?! I struggle with consistency. . . . Here’s what a pattern might look like: try something new or reimplement something that worked in the past, get good results, miss a day at some point, then, shortly afterwards, miss a couple, then stop. ... . . . Not always, but it happens. . . . Here’s another truth; I never give up. I always start again. Instead of beating myself up, which is also an old pattern, I weigh the feelings that come from inactivity against the feelings that come from action. . . . I don’t stay stopped and in that way, I’m moving forward. . . . Perfectionism works against me. it stops me from doing things rather than the opposite. Took me 42 years to deeply know that. . . . These past few months I have taken on new practices which are further deconstructing my ego. That is helping implement things that are good for my body, mind and soul. I am seeing clearly what it is I want to point my energy toward. When ego is in charge, which it has been for the majority of my life, physical, emotional and mental pain are the product. When I follow my gut, my heart and the still, small voice inside, pleasant outcomes bloom. . . . Back up to 3 minutes on my breath retention and that’s motivating. Motivation comes from action, not the other way around. The longer I remain still, the less motivated I become. The universe is in constant motion, constant flux, moving. And so, I am. See more

How do you prep? Hip prep, core activation and neuromuscular connection are 3 aspects of all my ‘warm ups’. This movement hits them all. The hip drive on the unstable surface with the halo following demands activity from all these factors. Add in the mobility component for the shoulders from the halo and this will be relevant for almost any workout you are preparing for. Not to mention that this is a great exercise to help strengthen and improve stability for your back. I was happy to meet up with this fella today. It was special and timely for @joeypasquino to reach out and say he wanted to get together. I have been really feeling the importance of spending time with people who have been important in my life. Men in particular. For many reasons, not the least of which is to talk about real things and what is going on inside us. We ran through the #eloragorge , hit some push/pull on the playground and ate a big meal afterwards, all the while catching up and talking straight.
