For many people across the globe, this holiday season brings some unique challenges this year. There may be some ways in which we can all help. When holiday shopping, consider your local vendors before going to the mega stores online. Here in Kenora, we have an incredible community of small business owners who have kept their doors open despite incredible circumstances this year. For the month of December, the Kenora Veterinary Clinic will be donating all proceeds from ever...y nail trim to Compassionate Kenora. Come on in and give your pets the gift of a pedicure this holiday season :) Compassionate Kenora If you're looking for something else to do, consider a donation to the Kenora Veterinary Clinic's Animal Welfare Fund. 100% of your gift will contribute to the pets who need it most. Wishing everyone a safe, healthy, and warm holiday season! #kenoravet #shoplocal

We want you to meet Samara, one of our many compassionate, talented, and hardworking Veterinary Assistants! Sam grew up in Kenora and had a love of animals since a very young age. She started at the Kenora Veterinary Clinic as a Co-Op student in high school and fell in love with the veterinary world. Sam went on to study at Sheridan college and received her Registered Veterinary Assistant certificate, and moved home to Kenora to be closer with family. Sam has worked at the Kenora Veterinary Clinic since 2016. In her spare time, Sam can be found spending time with her niece and going on hikes with friends. Although she doesn’t have any pets of her own (yet!), she enjoys taking care of other people’s furry friends in her time off. Thank you, Sam! #kenoravet

Did you remember to give this months Tick and Heartworm prevention? These are safe and effective products and Sully loves them! We've been seeing increases in Heartworm Disease in the area, especially in Whitedog, ON. This deadly disease is spread by mosquitos and easily prevented with monthly prevention (for about $10/month). In addition, Lyme ticks are still out and actually increase in the Fall! These are unprecedented times. We’ve all heard this countless times since the start of the COVID19 pandemic as people and businesses around the world work to navigate this new normal. But we need to say it again. These are unprecedented times. Frontline workers and citizens of Kenora are all doing their part to protect this treasured community of ours.... At the Kenora Veterinary Clinic, we are striving to balance both high quality patient care and the health and safety of our team during not only a global pandemic, but also the busiest season we have ever had. We ask you for your patience. Our phone lines are extremely busy, but they are working! You may wait awhile to get through to us, but rest assured, we are running to get to your call. To try and work around this, we have set up online booking and email at [email protected]. We are monitoring the email and we will get to you as soon as we can! Emergencies and sick patients are taking priority over wellness checks and vaccinations, however these are important to us too. Throughout this pandemic, our clinic doors have remained open. Our team has not missed a single day to provide care for the pets of this community. We are honoured to have the privilege to work with you in Northwestern Ontario. Thank you, Kenora for your patience and support as we navigate this together. To all Front Line Workers, we thank you. Sincerely, The KVC #kenoravet

MARCEL IS BLASTO-FREE! After almost 1 year of therapy, Marcel's family received the happy news today! As a result of his infection, Marcel lost his eyesight in both eyes and is completely blind. However, this hasn't slowed him down and he can definitely feel ALL the love we have for him at the KVC! Blastomycosis is a nasty fungal infection and sadly is endemic here in Kenora, ON. It is typically found in the soil and infects dogs, cats, and people. Blasto can infect many body systems and clinical signs can range from fever, lethargy, coughing, limping, skin infections, and uveitis (inflammation inside the eye). CONGRATULATIONS, MARCEL! We are so thrilled with the happy news for one of our favourite patients! #kenoravet

Did you know that wood ticks are still out!? Nova came in to get her tick prevention, a chewable tablet that can be give once monthly, or once every 3 months, depending on the age of your pet. They taste great and are the best prevention we have against Lyme Disease and Anaplasmosis! Lyme disease, caused by the bacteria Borrellia burgdorferi, is endemic in Kenora and Manitoba, and spread by the deer tick aka Ixodes scapularis. Clinical signs include fever, lethargy, joint pai...n/stiffness, and in severe cases can affect kidney function. The same tick is responsible for the spread of Anaplasmosis, an additional tick-borne disease that we are seeing more in Kenora. These symptoms are similar to Lyme Disease and also include vomiting, diarrhea, anemia. Call us to get your tick prevention for your pet! #kenoravet

Born and raised in Kenora, Heather has been a team member since 2012. Heather finds great joy in improving the lives of both pets and their owners. If you don’t see Heather at eye level, it may be because she is on the floor saying hello to a furry friend. When she’s not at the clinic, Heath...er can be found exploring the outdoors hiking, fishing, and camping. Heather is a skilled writer and can be found hiding in a book when she needs a rest.
