Our Board of Directors want to thank our Patrons (THE IODE KOKANEE CHAPTER) and all the businesses, companies and members of the public who have supported us. A big shout out to all the emergency services who we serve alongside thank you for your support too. In 2020 KERPA was available to respond to 106 Immediate Threat to Life Calls. Of these calls:... - We were placed on Standby for 15 and subsequently stood down - We were dispatched on 91 calls and cancelled on 17 (as the calls were downgraded or our assistance was not required) - We attended 74 Primary Missions where patient contact was made - At 43 of these calls KERPA medical expertise and or equipment was utilized - Of all the primary missions, 25 of these were CRITICAL THREAT TO LIFE EMERGENCY CALLS consisting of cardiac arrests, seizures, overdoses, motor vehicle entrapments, trauma and pediatric emergencies - KERPA was able to provide roadside medical and surgical procedures to a number of these critically injured patient (including anesthetizing a patient before helicopter evacuation) KERPA provides this service for FREE in the Region and we are willing to go where ever we are needed. Thank you Kootenays! #lovingthekootenays Photo - training with New Denver Fire :))
KERPA Physician thanks the local community on behalf of the charity and gives a Christmas update
This Summer 2020 has been the worst ever for overdose deaths... If this year continues as it has... our Province will see more people die from illicit drug toxicity in 2020 than any other year since 2010. Already BC has seen more people die this year than in 2010,2011,2013 and 2014 combined.... https://youtu.be/TNxEYOF8M5o Over the past 6 years KERPA has responded to over 40 immediate threat to life calls which were spefically overdose related. That is 8% of all our calls... KERPA is a registered charity that sends an emergency / EMS physician directly to the scene to save lives, help critically ill and injured patients and support the emergency services. Our board members and physician volunteer their time for free (at no cost to the health system or Government). We rely on public donations to keep our charity running. Please consider donating to KERPA this season to keep us rolling on calls in the Kootenays. To donate please visit our website at www.kerpa.org

Over the past 3 months KERPA has been busy and rolling on emergency calls... since the program began back in 2014 our physician has been dispatched on over x500 emergency calls in the Kootenay Area. Our Board of Directors and emergency response physician volunteer their time for free to help save lives, help critical ill and injured patients and support the emergency services. Safety is a huge priority for KERPA and last year we formed a safety committee to pursue excellence ...in the area of safety for our charity organization. As part of the committee's recommendation additional safety features were added to the truck (light bar, extra battery, public address system, larger identifiable markings... to mention just a few). Kai Schirp spearhead the truck upgrades with support from Corey Hoy and the rest of the Board or Directors. As part of the committees recommendations to enhance driving skills Dr. Nic attended a 4 day Emergency Vehicle Operation Course consisting of theory, a written exam and time trial examination at the end. Dr. Nic passed with two clear emergency runs (no hit cones) and was joint first fastest in the truck category... "Emergency response driving is a privilege and comes with a great deal of responsibility. Getting to an emergency call safely is my top priority for both myself and all members of the public. It was an amazing experience and I learnt how great the KERPA truck handles on the track. A big thanks to all those who help and support what we do in the Kootenays... (we don't forget you :))))))) " said Dr. Nic We hope you enjoy watching the final examination run for Dr. Nic... (no pressure !! not !!) KERPA - pursuing excellence in Safety
