Spring is Here! 5 Tips for Outdoor Electrical Safety in Vancouver BC: 1. Call Before You Dig. You’ve heard it a million times, but it needs to be said again: buried cables, pipes and conduits pose a danger to your life & property if you hit them. Call BC One Call toll-free at 1-800-474-6886 before doing any digging, and they can advise you of the exact location of underground facilities where you live. 2. Before using any piece of outdoor electrical equipment, inspect it firs...t before plugging it in. Check for frayed cords, cracked housings, and worn-out switches. 3. Be safe with electric mowers and tools outside: get the proper extension cord first (outdoor type & rated for powering your equipment) and don’t use them in wet areas or on wet grass. 4. Exercise care when trimming trees and hedges that are higher up. Hidden electrical wires or Christmas lights left up can pose a hazard. 5. Gone to fly a kite? Public parks are the best place. Residential streets and parking lots pose a danger with power lines.
