Roc Your Mocs continues... Rita Marten is sharing her story with us for Métis Week. #MetisWeek #metisweek2020
Born in the far north of Saskatchewan, Sara Loutitt’s Métis roots were planted in the remote fly-in community of Uranium City on the rocky shorelines of Lake Athabasca. Sara’s free spirit continues to be nurtured by the wind, sunshine, rain, and snow, but the land is where her soul knows peace and contentment. Sara currently lives in Fort McMurray (Nistawoyou in Cree) and it continually feeds and nourishes her being, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually. ...Sara completed her Masters in Education in 2018. Her life work in education has taken a more focused role on Indigenous languages, ways of knowing, and traditional land use within the existing educational frameworks. Sara has a passion to motivate and inspire the young and old, human and non-human beings, to reconnect with the land, and revitalize the relationship we have with all of creation. Sara’s current role as the Indigenous instructor for the Community-Based Environmental Monitoring Program allows her to teach students about the Indigenous ways of knowing and connecting with the land. Her daily motto is: Mîyo-pimâtisiwin, nitataminan (Its a beautiful life, I am grateful). #metisweek2020 #MetisWeek #keyanocollege #community See more

Keyano College celebrates International Education Week November 16 - 20. The College is enriched by the diversity of our students who join us each year. We are honoured to have them learn and grow with us. We are pleased that they have chosen Keyano College and are proud that they can take in the culture in Canada, and more specifically, Fort McMurray. All week we have featured some of our students from other continents. Today we proudly complete the week with one of our stud...ents from North America. Moiyan Toure Liberia Social Work My favorite thing about Keyano College is the people. Everyone is friendly and it’s very easy to make new friends. There are so many opportunities if you’re willing to work hard. The women’s basketball team works the hardest! Having an international background is my way of adding to the diversity of the community. I’m able to connect and add to society. Being here also allows me to help out my family back home in Liberia. There are more layers to me than what people see, I’m definitely more seasoned. My advice to future international students is to be aware that there will be obstacles, but as you overcome them, you will have a wonderful journey ahead of you.

Throwback Thursday, remembering when some elders came by and helped make Christmas Decorations with staff and students. It was great day with story telling and traditions. #metisweek2020 #MetisWeek #traditions
