Excuse me sir, do you have a booking?

Khutzeymateen Wilderness Lodge 27.04.2021

We’re entering the sedge-y times! The first skunk cabbage is coming up on the north coast...and this month grizzlies will be starting to come out of their dens in the Khutzeymateen, looking for some fresh, high protein sedge.

The Khutzeymateen estuary...one of the most peaceful places on the planet.

The many moods of the Khutzeymateen.

Here come the humpbacks! It's about that time when the humpback whales will be starting their migration back up to BC's north coast from Hawaii and Mexico and we can't wait to see them! In July, August and September our tours include exploring the coastline around Work Channel where the humpbacks congregate to feed, like this group here....look for the little spy hop at about 15 seconds. And HUGE bonus points if you've been on one of our tours and can name the whale with the white fluke.

They spend so much time in and around the ocean, grizzlies in the Khutzeymateen are pretty much marine mammals. Our tours start mid-May! Bring your bubble or join one of our tours. www.grizzlytour.com

A lovely little moment with Blondie & one of her three cubs who were in their third summer...the other two were starting to venture a little further away from mum. Can you hear the varied thrush in the background? Spring-time in the Khutzeymateen!

Does working from home make ‘springing forward’ easier this year? Or do we all need a little more hibernation today?

One of the many perks of a floating lodge - sometimes deer swim past the living room window.

It's Family Day! Please enjoy the wrestling moves of 3 year cubs Samuel and Alfie - using the classic sibling holds of 'Foot To The Face' and 'Grabbing of Ear' and the simple but effective 'Squashing'. Bring your family to the Khutzeymateen! We can customize our tours for your bubble - and we promise we won't make you wrestle. www.grizzlytour.com

We’re celebrating all the love today! Like this cute little moment between a harbour seal & her newborn pup - she had just given birth in the bay beside the lodge & we were all smitten.

Punxsutawney Phil may have predicted 6 more weeks of winter but all the Canadian groundhogs (Shubenacadie Sam, Wiarton Willie & Fred La Marmotte) have predicted an early spring! Not too long until the grizzlies are walking through the wildflowers. Learn about our spring tours! https://www.grizzlytour.com/tour-information

Want to see some cute?! It's that time of year when grizzlies are starting to give birth to cubs in their dens - the cubs are covered in a very fine fur and are blind and toothless but by the time they emerge from the den in the spring they're ready to tuck into some sedge and mussels. And they’re still a little fuzzy.

Photographs from the Khutzeymateen memories from Shayla, a 9 year old who visited the Khutzeymateen from Calgary, Alberta. We had a crazy day with 3 moms with 8 cubs and two sub adults all within close distance. The moms were on alert but recognized the scents and that they were not a threat.
