Kindersley Rock Your World Orchard 22.03.2021

Thank you to all who came to the orchard tonight. And, a special thank you to the kindhearted family who brought me a bouquet of flowers which they had growing in theIr garden. Fruit Status: Saskatoons although there are still berries to be found inside many bushes, I feel that the Saskatoons have come to a close for this season. ... Cherries there are still cherries the require time to ripen. Maybe in the next few days of heat the last of the cherries will be ready to be picked. In the next few days, watch for the post as to when this remaining batch of cherries are ready. Raspberries These need at least four days to ripen again. I will be watering the rows this week. Possibly Saturday or Sunday there will be a good amount ready to collect. Watch for the post if you would like to gather raspberries. Thank you :)

Today was ‘Ruth Day’ at Rock Your World Orchard. We thank all the people who arrived to collect fruit for free. I loved every minute of visiting with you all and gathering berries together. How the Name ‘Ruth Day’ Came to Be... There are two reasons why the name ‘Ruth Day’ came to be. Here is the first reason: When Shawn and I planted the orchard in 2007, it took three years to care for the entire 10 acres while allowing the trees to grow. This required a lot of time, ...energy and investment with no tangible returns. Once the Saskatoons began to produce fruit, in the third growing season, we found it exceptionally difficult to spread the word for people to become aware of our orchard. However, there was one woman whose name is Ruth who came to our orchard during our first fruit season. Each year since, Ruth has supported our orchard and she became our flickering light of hope to continue onward with our orchard. It was during our fifth year, after all the years previous of continually holding a clear vision of what the orchard could become regardless of the lack of visitors, that I had finally turned to Shawn one day and said, I think we should give up. I, in that moment, had let my vision go. The very next day after I uttered those words to Shawn, a woman called me (who I did not know at the time) and she said, I believe in your orchard and I want to help get the word out to the community and surrounding areas. Would you let me start a Facebook page for your orchard? I simply could not believe that this woman, who had such passion and enthusiasm in her voice, wanted to help us so desperately. I quickly agreed. After I hung up the phone with her, I felt that something bigger knew that this orchard is intended to go on. My vision instantly returned and I continue to hold it to this very day. So, now onto the second reason we called this day ‘Ruth Day. That same woman who had started our Facebook page had come to the orchard to pick raspberries one evening and we began to visit. I had mentioned to her that I wanted to hold one day where people in need to come to orchard and pick for free. This woman quickly began to share a biblical story about a woman named Ruth who was permitted to glean ( to collect or gather) from a farmer’s field since she was in need. Although Shawn and I are not religious people, we found this story interesting. That night I researched the concept of gleaning and read about this story of Ruth. For these two reasons, ‘Ruth Day’ became the name for the one day dedicated each season to share the gifts of Nature with those in need.

This morning I picked 10 pounds of cherries in about one hour. My plan is to come back this evening to continue looking through the remaining trees since many trees have amazing cherries located near the middle. If you love these cherries then join me tonight or tomorrow to collect this delicious fruit. We will only have today and tomorrow to collect the cherries for this season. Call/text 306.460.4442.
