How cool is this?! Our fantastic maintenance team is currently renovating the Slipp House, and they recently found a variety of coins from the 1800s! We don't know why these particular coins were hidden or placed inside the structure, but this practice seems to be a tradition during construction. Were the coins meant to bring luck and good fortune to the occupants? Were they placed in the foundation or nailed to wooden beams during construction as a sort of time capsule? Qui...te the mystery! The Slipp House was built in 1853. It was moved to Kings Landing from its original location in Bulls Creek (near Woodstock, NB) in 1972 and serves as the central location and dormitory for the Visiting Cousins and Family Kin programs. This past fall, the Slipp House was moved to the field between Hagerman House and Kansuhsey Wik (Ancestors House) to bring the Visiting Cousins and Family Kin programs into the Village, and to upgrade the house itself. Click through the images to find out more about the coins.
