So I finally got some brief pictures of Elsa’s 6 babies and it had to be brief (apologies as they are not as good as Sara’s pictures turn out). They a all gaining steadily and Elsa is ok with us handling them for brief periods of time. Aren’t they just the most precious things ! More pictures to come as I can talk sara into taking some. Hers are always a ton better ! Having so much life in the house is always such an inspiring thing. Especially when they start out so small. Watch the page for more updates and keep the 6 in your thoughts ! Love them so already and they are only a week old tonight.

Some of the tiniest babies we have seen so far. But momma is doing a pretty good job so far. And we are set up to help her with feeding if necessary. Such precious little ones. And our second litter of this kitten season. The first ones will be 6 weeks old on Tuesday. Can’t wait till we can see these guys rumbling around like their foster siblings are. The two whites look likely to be flame points and I suspect we will have an orange tabby female at least to go along with her... rare momma ! Feels so good to be able to help them and have their trust ! Fostering is tiring but so rewarding when you get to see them grow when they don’t always have that option depending on the situation. And having mommas on hand is also something we haven’t had a lot of and it reduces the work and stress for us ! Names and pictures to be posted as soon as they are a little better with being handled and bigger but this litter will be a Constellation theme ! They are our little stars after all ! . It's winter... here's how to make a feral/stray cat shelter - There's so many different options when it comes to building an outdoor shelter for cats, this is t...he simplest and easiest out there. I'm not saying this is the best, but it's more than adequate to keep some feral/stray kitties warm this winter! :) *Other tips/options/considerations for this type of shelter... 1. You can use a hairdryer to warm the plastic up before cutting out the holes to make it easier 2. You can use styrofoam or insulation board instead of straw 3. ALWAYS use straw and not hay! - Hay soaks up moisture which makes the shelter cold and can also get moldy 4. You can add a second entrance/exit to the shelter if you're worried about predators in your area, I chose not to since this cuts down on the insulation of the shelter a lot 5. Have I been quiet lately? Yes, I have! I just have no energy left for pics and posts right now Why? Well, do you see that great big ball of grey mush there giving that kitten a bath? That’s Ash, one of our foster fails. He loves all the kittens and he’s a great cat daddy to them. So when I tell you one of the fosters came in with ringworm and now we have to treat every animal in the house just in case, I want you to understand that I’m placing the blame solely on that guy’s... shoulders, because he has free roam of the house and (because we thought everyone was cleared) he has access to every foster in the house as well. We’re not going to blame it on me, who also has access to every corner of the house and every foster. Nay, nay. It’s all on that guy. Anyways, please be patient with me. Geppetto, Jiminy, Figaro and Blue are in the house! They were found in a wishing well where mama had been taking care of them until it started to rain. These guys were soaked through and were still trying to find Mama. Six babies graduated to the Humane Society last night. SIX! Theyre all in the kitten room if youd like to revel in their loving energy Thessaly (orange tabby) is an active little guy who barely stops for food, but once hes settled down for cuddles, he purrs your ear off. Athens (tortie) is an inquisitive little girl who likes to know what youre doing and shell talk to you while youre doing it. Khaki (grey tabby) is a lovely little guy with humongous eyes who l...oves to climb but then expects you to lift him down. Lace (grey tabby) is a loving little girl who doesnt let a little cloudy eye get in her way. She doesnt like to share her toys though - no, no, no! Winnie (the Pooh) is a sweetheart of a boy. If you spend more time looking at your phone then letting him, he will chew on your hair to remind you that he is RIGHT HERE! Denim (black long hair) is a beautiful boy whos a little shy. He needs a window to sit and watch what is going on and pretends he doesnt need you (but he does). See more

Who needs an update on Spider and Leela?! Spider is slowly gaining - so, so slowly - but he surprises us every day. Like when we were sure his vision wasnt great but the vet said nope, hes blind. No way, we said, he gets around just fine! And he does, you would never know, just dont move the furniture around to prove yourself wrong Leela has been a great foster sister - they get along like a house in fire. Does she practice some guerrilla warfare techniques on her ...blind bro? And just like that, Blink is gone. Sometimes its all just too much for these guys. After hours of trying to convince him to stick around, the only thing left was to cuddle him until he crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Whenever theres a death in our little furry family, I ask you all to give your furbabies an extra hug today.

Spider is playing! He gets stronger every day!

Where have we been for so long? Weve been wrestling with this little cutie! Spider came to us so, so tiny and underdeveloped. Mama had given up on him and he wasnt even snuggled with his siblings when their guardian brought him in. For awhile he was fighting against one of our other fosters, who loved him to bits but just couldnt get this guy stabilized, so he came to us. Thats the benefit of having 2 people handling these critical care munchkins instead of only 1 person... trying to deal with it all and take care of other fosters at the same time! After a little while, the rest of his litter came to us too! Although were very sad that their Mama disappeared, we were really looking forward to Spider having his brothers and sisters back! When youre trying to deal with a ball of fury!

Do you know what a southern Alberta fountain is right now? Its one of those pretty little sights where water is sprayed in a symmetrical arc out of some tube or some such and then at the very height of its arc the water evaporates like that friend that owes you money. We have a sprinkler trying to do its best impersonation of a southern Alberta fountain but the little wheel that spins will quite often get stuck, shooting an errant spray of water high into the air as if it...s aiming for the stars. Much like that vanished friends dreams. Reminds me of Chenille (the spray of water, not the friend). This cat flips around from toy to your personal items like a hyperactive kid whos up too late and, just like that arc of water that evaporated at the height of its spray, she disappears. Youll find her in some random linen closet or tucked in the pile of shoes at the back of your closet. Thats if you havent left a drawer open, of course. One of my first cats was this huge tabby and I named her Sass (because she really was) and then I was booking her for her spay and I realized she was definitely a boy (this wasnt the important part - dont come at me). Which was great for my wallet b/c a neuter is cheaper than a spay but then I had to decide if I was going to rename this cat that I had just spent 6 months trying to convince was his name or keep his name as Sass. Which is what I did. Point is, when Winnie c...ame to us after having been thrown out of a car, we never bothered to take a close look under his tail either (this seems to be a running theme with us). We were way more concerned about any potential injury and even tho Winnie the Pooh is technically a boy, Winnie really was meant for the girl we thought he was. But he doesnt seem to be holding that against us. Just as long as he gets to have an adventure (playtime!), he seems to be an all around happy boy. The only thing about him is he always lets the other cats steal his toys. So maybe if you adopt him, make sure you dont have a little cleptomaniac buddy for him.
