March 13, 2020 Re: Cancellation of the 43rd Annual Gander and Area Kiwanis Music Festival In light of the recent changes in policy with some of our major stakeholders in the festival and in accordance with the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health to consider the potential public health implications of large gatherings, the Kiwanis Club of Gander has canceled the 43rd Annual Music Festival.... We recognize the inconvenience and impact that this decision has on our arts community, performers, and teachers that have worked so hard to prepare for their classes. Still, we feel that it is in their best interest as well as the best interest in the over 100 volunteers and thousands of potential audience members to help mitigate the potential risks associated with the COVID-19 coronavirus. This decision was not made lightly, as you can imagine. It was reached after lengthy discussions with our members and after seeking input from informed persons. Again, we apologize for this inconvenience, and we appreciate your understanding of the position with which we find ourselves in. Further information will follow. Thank you, Kevin O’Rourke Gander and Area Kiwanis Music Festival Secretary
