THE IMPORTANCE OF VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS Did you ever stop to think what would happen if no one volunteered to put out fires or respond to medical emergencies i...n your community. The toll in lives and property would be unfathomable. Over 70% of the fire departments in the United States are manned by all-volunteer firefighters. In Texas, 77% of the fire service is volunteer fire departments. This includes your community, or one close by. Volunteer firefighters are this nation's first line of defense, and sometimes, your community's only line of defense in many types of emergencies. As a volunteer firefighter you can serve your community, protect property and save lives. Fires don't wait. Neither should you. Become a volunteer firefighter today.
Hi Yukon! With warmer temperatures and heavy wet snow falling across the territory today, please be mindful of icy road conditions. Our road crews are working a...s quickly as they can to clear our roads, but are focusing on primary roads first. Thank you very much for your patience and remember to drive slowly and safely! Please check 511yukon.ca for the latest. See more
Remembrance Day, 2020 looked a little different this year. No large groups of people, just a few hardy souls practicing social distancing. We shall not forget.
It's always a good idea to check 511 for road conditions before traveling in the winter, but especially after major weather events. Currently, all highways in southern Yukon are closed. Get the latest: www.511yukon.ca
The Klondike Valley Firefighters Association is undertaking a FireSmart project in the Rock Creek area, between the Firehall and the Campground. By removing highly flammable materials such as dead trees and conifers, and ensuring trees left on site are spaced out and limbed up to two metres, the project aims to reduce the intensity and slow the spread of a wildfire should one occur near the subdivision. Crews will be working in the area for the next few weeks. Smoke will be... visible from the highway and the Rock Creek road - so please use caution and drive accordingly to the conditions. Thanks, and Stay Safe Dawson.
