The 2020 annual pumpkin fundraiser was a huge success... Seens not even a pandemic was able to stop so many wonderful people from giving generously this year. We raised close to $2000 in funds which is going to support several local rescues, shelters and animal welfare groups. Just goes to show you that when times get tough, the spirit of giving persists within the hearts of the people. A truly wonderful part of human nature shines through and shows that our species cheri...shes its bond with nature. With warm thanks to all the generous citizens that made donations and picked up a fabulous Halloween pumpkin at 4 Mr. Pets locations, Mission, Maple Ridge, Abbotsford and Port Coquitlam, and at the Otter Co-Op and Bark Avenue Holistic Pet Supplies in Pitt Meadows. We grew 402 pumpkins here on the Kooky Kat catnip farm, and all but 13 pumpkins found homes for Halloween. The rest became food for our chickens. Thank you again for all your generous support helping raise much-needed funds for The Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association VOKRA, for the Surrey Community Cat Coalition and Katie’s Place Cat Shelter in Maple Ridge, BC. We will be back in 2021 with more retailers on board and more beautiful pumpkins to raise much needed funds for lower mainland rescues. James Black and cats Kooky Kat Catnip Company
for those of you which are interested in learning more about feline and canine coronavirus is here is a link to an extremely well written review of the subject matter. Published in 2011. you’ll need to put your thinking cap on and try to remember your high school chemistry and biology. it is written for people with advanced knowledge in virology but it is still worth the read if you wish to learn some of the basics about coronavirus is in pets. https://www.hindawi.com/journals/av/2011/609465/

Cats worldwide are celebrating today ... give yours a special treat.
The Scottish Wildcat Preservation Society Highland Wildlife Center As of 2020 there are maybe less than 100 of these incredibly beautiful Scottish Wildcats left on Earth. They are going extinct primarily because of interbreeding with feral and domestic cats. Their numbers were drastically reduced due to persecution by farmers and developers that killed them because they were considered a pest species. These cats have been in the United Kingdom for over 10,000 years and now... there are less than 100 remaining, with maybe only a few dozen that remain genetically pure. https://www.telegraph.co.uk//scottish-wildcats-bred-capti/
Currently on Netflix there is a fabulous documentary called The Tigers of Scotland. A very well composed documentary detailing the endangered Scottish Wildcat. It is well worth the watch.. an incredible story with some fabulous footage of this elusive, rare incredibly beautiful wild cat
Careful what ya say these days
We are pleased to help any registered animal rescue/ shelter operating within Canada with a donation of free fine grind catnip, excellent for making cat toys for fundraising.
Not just kitty cats have beautiful tails, comets do as well. Here is a picture I snapped early this morning July 11th 2020 from the back field here on the farm located in Pitt Meadows, BC Canada. This strikingly beautiful comet is gracing the north eastern skies just before sunrise. Comet NEOWISE was discovered in March by a satellite in space. The comet is currently at closest approach to Earth, and it’s getting brighter. Look for its bright nucleus and beautiful long tail in the early morning hours 3-4 am about 30 degrees above the northeastern horizon. Soon comet NEOWISE will move into the constellation of the Lynx, and perhaps we will see a game of cosmic tail chase.
Happy Canada Day everybody ! we should all be extra proud of ourselves this year for the amazing job we have done to reduce the presence of this nasty virus within our communities... just goes to show you that when we all cooperate we can accomplish anything... still lots more work to do but we will get through this. Canadians are the kind of people that get things done when important things need to get done, then we watch hockey with friends and a few cold ones, EH !
This is fabulous, Go Scottish Wildcats !!!

This is the hand of your local farmers, families that work hard to grow food for your table. There have been many changes over the past several months. Many of these changes have led to some of us having to plough under certain crops, and change crop plans. Know this, farmers will continue to work the fields, will continue to grow healthy produce, milk and eggs for your tables, your families, your children. We will keep you fed.. you have our promise.
