April 2020 - I made the decision to double down on my health and fitness. I started working with Tag Dundas of TNT Fitness in Abbotsford. I worked with him for just over 3 months then joined the challenge he runs through his gym. 4 months have now passed. Yesterday I reached the first milestone I had set for myself back in April - I completed the Abby Grind 3 times back-to-back. It was not easy but boy did it feel good to sit at the top and reflect on what I had just accomplished!

This article is a rally cry against ageism. It is one person's opinion, but I so resonated with the message!

Life is not about arriving at the finish line in an attractive and well preserved body. It's about skidding in sideways with Champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, screaming "WOOHOO WHAT A RIDE!" (adapted from Hunter S. Thompson)

The best way to plan a project is to start with the end in mind then reverse engineer it. Here, Winnie is inspecting my plans for a project I am working on. I got 2 thumbs up from her!

Setting big goals can be daunting. But if your dreams don't scare you they are not big enough. I have a big dream - the top of the Mt Baker glacier in the summer of 2021 to mark my 65th birthday. The road to the top starts with one step. When the work gets hard, I just remind myself what I want and why I want it. With a clear WHY, any goal you set is attainable, one small step at a time.

I just received this via email. It is written by Bill Gates. Love him or hate him, I invite you to read it - yes it is long - and give it some thought. In no way is this meant to dismiss the reality that this virus is creating extreme suffering around the world. *What is the Corona/ Covid-19 Virus Really Teaching us?* Im a strong believer that there is a spiritual purpose behind everything that happens, whether that is what we perceive as being good or being bad. ...Continue reading

Some trail somewhere. I went out for a long walk yesterday. When I left home it was cold and grey and my expectations for beautiful views were not great. However, when I arrived at my destination, the sun was shining, a cold wind was blowing, the water birds were restless as they worked at at turning their nests into nurseries, and I found myself surrounded by mountains covered in a new layer of fresh snow. Deep breath. Peace. Nature never lets me down

Over the last few weeks, I have been amazed at how many people appear to dismiss the seriousness of the coronavirus pandemic, how many appear to refuse to take responsibility for their part of the solution. When I see images of people who are completely disregarding the rules of social distancing or refusing to self-isolate knowing that they are infected, all I can do is ask How could they be so selfish and stupid?. Today I came across a podcast clip by Dr. Karen Wolfe tha...t put a completely different spin on it, a spin that makes me see these social miscreants in a completely different light. Dr. Wolfe suggested that if we look at these peoples behavior through the lens of grief, it all suddenly makes sense. The grief she refers to is the grief that results from the loss of life as we know it, even if it is temporary. Many of us feel overwhelmed, we can't see a light at the end of the tunnel, so we see the loss as permanent and the future becomes uncertain. There are 4 stages of grief. The first is denial. Crowded beaches, large weddings, large outdoor concerts these are people in denial. The second stage is anger. Racist attacks against people of Chinese decent and finger pointing at various levels of government looking for someone to blame these are symptoms of anger. The third stage is bargaining. In the face of mixed messages, or when messages change to keep up with new medical discoveries, people get confuse and ask What exactly do you mean? How far can I push it and still be okay?. The final stage of the grief process is acceptance. This is when people accept that we really do have a common problem, that we are all in this together, that each of us has a role to play to get us ALL through these challenging times in one piece. What I like about Dr. Wolfes re-frame is that I get grief: been there, done that. If I can see peoples behavior through the lens of grief instead of the lens of belligerence, I can see that we really are more alike than different. It means I can move away from anger and closer to compassion and kindness. And compassion and kindness are what will mitigate the fallout of these trying times for all of us.

Social distancing today on some trail somewhere. I am so grateful that I can head out to any number of trails close-by and my hiking buddy and I are the only people around.

Went to check out what is happening in the wetlands. Another gorgeous day for a walk. Very few birds at the moment and no nesting or babies yet. It was great to see people out with kids and dogs and enjoying themselves

I am always telling clients that growth comes just outside our comfort zone. One of the areas of my life that I dont talk about much is my love of acrylic paints and doodling. There is no purpose to it. I just love color and I love doodling. It is very zen-like for me. However, I dont see myself as an artist, so I dont share what I do. Well, a few days ago I played, and I happen to like the result. Is it finished? Probably not. When will I go back to it? Who knows. What is important is that I gave myself permission to play, and I am stepping way, way, out of my comfort zone to share it. Will the world stop turning? Who knows. Will people like what I did? Who knows. Do I like what I did? Yes. The rest is just gravy. Playing for the sake of playing nothing more, nothing less.
