What does your January mood board look like? Have you ever tried to make one? They can be fun! Grab a pair of scissors and some old magazines, find some photos of loved ones, poems or songs that inspire you, colours that make you happy, and anything else you would like to look at to help you live your best January! ... Put it all together on a piece of paper or cardboard, place it on your fridge or desk (something that you look at every day) and use it to remind you to make time for what matters to you most. Savour your January.

What thoughts, actions, and states of being would you like to invite into the new year? Maybe resolutions aren’t your thing. Instead, perhaps this is a time to reflect and be more intentional about your ways of living. It’s ok to try, it’s ok to not be 100% successful from the start, we are imperfectly perfect humans after all!... Remember to be kind to yourself. It all starts with you. It all starts with love. Love yourself first. #howisitnewyearsalready #2022hopeful

New Moon Yintentions Sunday, January 2nd 7 to 8:30 PM * in-studio & online with @theradicalvibes ... New Moon Yintentions is a 90-minute online series combining meditation, tarot, intention setting and a yin yoga practice. We'll slow down and go deep, meeting the new moon with intention, ritual, and (virtual) community. Grab your mat, some props, and your journal, and get ready to travel inwards. The moon cycles offer an excellent opportunity to start integrating cyclical rituals into your routine, and to approach life with intention and reflection. Within the moon cycle, New Moons are a time of intention setting and visioning for the weeks and months ahead. New Moons are a yin time, when the sky is dark and we're called to slow down and go inward. New Moon Yintentions is designed to capture the magic of this time, and support you in cultivating intentional practices for yourself. Each session will begin with a grounding meditation, for us to arrive together in time and space. Next, Bryn will provide a mini collective tarot reading, offering themes for reflection and preparing for the cycle ahead. We will then take time to set personal intentions, where you will have time to journal and perhaps pull cards for yourself, if that is part of your practice. The last half of our time together will be spent in yin practice, allowing our intentions to steep in the body as we hold postures in stillness. Sliding Scale Drop-ins: Reduced $10 (online) / $30 (studio) This payment rate is available to students, seniors, underemployed individuals, and those living with precarious income, such as artists and self-employed individuals Regular $15 (Online) / $40 (Studio) This payment rate is for those with a steady income who can afford to pay full price Supporter $20 (Online) / $50 (Supporter) This payment rate is for those with a steady income who can afford to pay a little extra, knowing that this makes the work available and accessible to all Kula members receive 10% off Only 5 studio spots left!! * more information on our ‘workshops+’ page. #newmoon #yinyoga #tarot

Kula Yoga & Pilates classes have been operating at less than 50% capacity since we’ve reopened in September. We have required all staff and students to be double vaxxed since opening day. In light of the current Covid climate, we have reduced our class size even further for the time being.... 10 max & social distancing at all times. We have some in-studio classes over the holidays, with a reduced schedule. If you would prefer to stay home, we have online classes too! Wishing everyone a safe and nourishing holiday

We make up narratives about our day, our life-story, and use these narratives to predict the future. We make an assumption about a situation, and tell it to ourselves so many times, we believe it as the truth. We blur the line between reality and imagination when we live inside our heads and forget to realize the difference of 1 the facts of a situation and 2 our interpretation of it. Can we pause for a moment and look at our own self-talk. What is it like to liv...e inside your head? Is it a nice place to be? Probably not all of the time, but maybe we can work at it, little by little, to make our own consciousness feel more like home, a warm and inspired one. It can take practice - try noticing all of the beautiful things around you every time you walk, say affirmations to yourself, point out positive things about the people around you - and soon, without trying, you’ll be going for a walk and your mind will start doing this on its own. It’s like building muscle memory, the more you do some thing, the more it becomes second nature. A fun tip! If you connect positive thinking while doing a certain action, soon that action will inspire positive thinking, like the Pavlov effect! Here to #inpsireyourlifeofjoy

Inspired by teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha. The root of suffering is attachment. Are there things, people, goals/expectations, or memories to which you have a strong attachment, so much so, that it causes you anxiety when that aspect of your life is not there? ... It’s wonderful to find joy in people, places, or things - but true contentment can only be found within yourself. This notion of being found makes it seems like it is a passive action, rather we should say contentment can only be created within you, and by you. I found an old journal, Olivia age 14, I’d rather laugh and cry than smile and frown, and what I meant by that was that I was OK living a life of extremes if it meant extreme pleasures. As I grew older, this notion quickly changed, and I now seek contentment over elation, moderation over extremes. We used to scoff at our mother’s advice, without realizing it stemmed from ancient wisdoms, that could add value to all of our lives if we just took a moment to learn what it meant to implement them. Can you enjoy a song at a distance today, as if it was the last time you would ever hear the song, soaking in all of the notes, with pure enjoyment, content as if you were OK hearing it for the last time? When we approach our life in this way, soaking in every moment and not expecting more, suddenly the world seems less complicated, and maybe a little more beautiful

We received this message after the second week of our YTT which started in January of 2021 - wow how far we’ve come! June is around the corner (if you can believe it!) and soon our students will graduate as teachers, and they have been working so hard! We have a morning session today, where we will all meet virtually over zoom, meditate together on this rainy day, teach each other postures, and learn some new ones!... Yesterday our students met with Kiran Sohal, Kula’s philosophy & history teacher, where they slowed down to learn the significance of these teachings. Thank you to all of our students who have trust in us. The feeling is mutual

Do you know your boundaries? Have you set them and upheld them when others questioned you? What do your boundaries protect? Your energy? Your time? Your emotions? Your mental health? Your relationships? Your sense of self-worth? Your future? You? Saying no is ok. Taking time to respond is ok. Leaving behind relationships that drain you is ok. Letting go of unhealthy habits is ok. Letting go of old ways of living and thinking is ok.... What do you need to feel good, full, and excited for life? Hint: the answer is within you. Setting boundaries can help you spend quality time with yourself, understanding your own needs and tendencies, in turn advocating for yourself more effectively. Are you asking yourself, what boundaries to set? Ask yourself, what needs aren’t being met?, and start there. You have the power to protect your energy, and it can take practice. What do you need today?

New Years often comes with baggage - pressure to change, to make goals, to accomplish more - sometimes this feels inspiring if it comes from a genuine place inside of you, but it can also feel like a dog chasing it’s tail if you’ve been through these cycles year after year. This year feels a little different...it’s a quit hum that is preparing us for a communal shift. Of course we don’t wake up changed overnight, and our western idea of New Year’s Day doesn’t determine how o...ur whole year will go, but there is something in the air that feels promising this year, that feels more uniting. Maybe the collective consciousness is shifting, and we are all preparing for something greater. Maybe this is hopeful thinking. Maybe it’s ok to be hopeful. How are you feeling this New Year? No feeling is final, and no feeling is right. Let the feels flow, and check in with yourself and loved ones. If you feel that quiet, hopeful hum - tune in. There are more of us humming with you

A note from Léa B to our community: Since the early days of the pandemic, I had the pleasure of teaching weekly online classes. I felt honoured to be welcomed into so many students’ homes, and it was a privilege to be trusted during such a difficult time. In September I had to take a step back from teaching and was unable at the time to announce why. So here goes! In late August my partner and I got the happy news that we were expecting! But with that came some nasty early-pr...egnancy symptoms that I am still battling on occasion. Teaching, let alone even doing a downward dog, seemed near impossible. I am slowly starting to practise again and I’m re-learning how my body now wants to move. I will be taking this time in my pregnancy to train in prenatal yoga and to touch base with the basics. Thank you to all of the students who practised with me and to the beautiful Kula community for always being there for me. I hope to be back sooner than later! With care, @leadreamsinyoga Thank you and congratulations Léa and family We look forward to seeing you on the schedule again when the time is right.

New year’s can bring with it a plethora of emotions, so whatever you are sitting with today, be gentle with yourself. We are all still learning, growing, inspiring, and connecting, to our own intuition and to others. Let’s take a moment and remind ourselves we are loved and we are loveable. Say that to yourself, 8 times: I am loved, and I am loveable, or until you really fe...el it in your bones. And then realize - we are love itself. As it is not one swallow or a fine day that makes a spring, so it is not one day or a short time that makes a man blessed and happy. Aristotle. He also said, these virtues are formed in man by his doing the right actions. Google has translated and shortened these teachings into this catchy saying. There is truth in these words, which is why we are sharing this with our community today.... We aren’t defined by only one aspect, one moment, or one act. Are you allowing one part of yourself to define the whole? Excellence is not an achievement, but a practice. Be patient with yourself and keep looking where you want to go, the rest will follow.
